His family was moving because high taxes.
They went to Egypt to flee Herod, who was killing all male children under 2 years of age to eliminate the Messiah, whom he viewed as a rival.
But when the threat had passed, they returned to Nazareth. They didn't stay in Egypt and get on welfare.
