Yes, had one that limped home on 3 legs a couple of times, tended to want to be a house cat until he could walk normally, then back out to the wild. Came in covered with ice one winter night. Thawed out, ate some food, then he wanted right back out.
I know how the story is likely to end - we have coyotes and bobcats in the subdivision - but he's happy and has an easy life until then.
Those capable of demonstrating sadistic cruelty on animals will just as easily do it to humans. There’s the concern.
Someone is seriously sick in the head.
***20-year-old tabbys death***
Most cats don’t last 16 years. It is usually dogs, coyotes, hyperthyroidism or just old age that kills them.
If it is a person doing it...it’s the mutilating part that is especially disturbing.
The main threat to cats in Fort Worth are coyotes, pit bulls and vehicles. I LOVE cats. The coyotes saunter down the city streets with somebody’s little chihuahua or cat, politey stepping over to side walk to let a car pass by. The coyotes travel thru a small local park across street from a school.
The pit bulls are another matter. I HATE them. They have no fear will come after you on your own porch and there is nothing you can do about it. You can not defend yourself without being arrested.
Someone who gets his jollies torturing animals is sick and dangerous. Many of the serial killers/shooters started out that way.
Grandma Pyle always said that “when a Fox moves into a neighborhood cats and rabbits start to disappear.” - Gomer Pyle
and btw this creep will or has killed young women. I bet on it.
“Now he wont budge. He hears and smells the coyotes.”
Very smart cat you have there.
But the cats were innocent.
Cats routinely torture and play with the prey before they finally kill it. Often, semi-feral cats do not eat their prey. They simply torture and kill it for fun.
So, is a cat that tortures and kills mice and birds morally superior to a person who tortures and kills cats?
If you claim “that is what cats do” the person could claim the same.
I think the deliberate torture of animals before killing them is wrong.
It should be acknowledged that when a semi-feral cat is killed, it likely prevents the torture and killing of hundreds of small mammals and birds.
The punishment for this killer should be public mutilation until dead, dead, dead but make sure it takes at least 2 days to do it. Non stop of course.
How do you know that?
People who mutilate animals are taking baby steps into something that's not good, not good at all. I hope they catch whoever is behind this quickly before it escalates.
On another note, what is a "semi-feral" cat and why does someone make a pet out of one? Seems sort of risky on the surface.
When I was about four years old, I had a small Painted Turtle named Speedy. A neighbor-kid of my grandparents took him one day and pounded a nail through his shell, killing him.
Something you will never forget. How did that ‘kid’ turn out?
You must live in the wrong part of Texas. I shot one in my neighborhood that had attacked my dog during his evening walk. I was not arrested. If one came into my yard and attacked me I'd definitely shoot it.
You are correct. And there is a worldwide movement led by liberal scum to eliminate feral cats. And apparently you’re on their team.
I can see spay and neuter for squirrels and raccoons, but I doubt any community can have enough feral cats.
“What is happening to our civilization?”
In this case it’s probably just a coyote or a raccoon taking advantage of some easy prey.
And even if it is a person doing then the solution is simple: Keep your cat inside and you won’t have to worry about it.
I’ve just never understood the mentality of cat owners who think their cats have a right to wander around a neighborhood, fight other people’s cats, kill the birds in other people’s yards, and then spray and crap in the sandboxes of every little kid.
I like other people’s cats. But I like them much more when they’re not on our property.
