Army stops discharging immigrants for now

The U.S. Army has stopped discharging immigrant recruits who enlisted seeking a path to citizenship -- at least temporarily.

A memo shared with The Associated Press on Wednesday and dated July 20 spells out orders to high-ranking Army officials to stop processing discharges of men and women who enlisted in the special immigrant program, effective immediately.

It was not clear how many recruits were impacted by the action, and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the memo.

"Effective immediately, you will suspend processing of all involuntary separation actions," read the memo signed by Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Marshall Williams.

The disclosure comes one month after the AP reported that dozens of immigrant enlistees were being discharged or had their contracts cancelled. Some said they were given no reason for their discharge. Others said the Army informed them they'd been labeled as security risks because they have relatives abroad or because the Defense Department had not completed background checks on them.

Eligible recruits are required to have legal status in the U.S., such as a student visa, before enlisting.

The DOD put out a statement a couple weeks ago. The foreigners failed background checks. Some cheated or lied on the immigration process, some lied about their credentials, and some had undisclosed criminal activity or unacceptable associations in the old country. Some were flat out plants by foreign governments. This program screams to the world for plants. Looks like standards are about to lowered to ensure foreigners succeed. Maybe some lies or fraud will be now be acceptable.

Total fake news.

They weren’t discharging immigrants, it was made up.

These are not immigrants, green card holders have always been eligible to enlist.
Illegal aliens have always been barred from enlisting, until the illegal Kenyanesian Usurper illegally allowed some to illegally enlist.
The Trump administration is trying to restore the rule of law.

The Army is failing to meet its recruiting and retention goals.

This is a 25 meter target stop the bleeding exercise, for now.

The bigger question is why is the Army now failing to meet these goals?

Trump economy, and who wants to deal with the freak show the military has allowed itself to become? I know I wouldn’t.

The implied premise is that the immigrant program recruits are the target. The reality is a recruit has to meet a minimum standard. I think the attrition of my basic training class was close to 50%. If it is about enlistment paper work the recruit only needs to not sign anything and resist expulsion.

This has had to be going on for a long time.
In the mid 50s when I was in the Army 3 German soldiers who fought against us in WWII were going this route.
Iwas close to one of them, and he hated the other 2 Germans, he would refer to them as "farmers" because when the Germans started to lose the war they took in civilians not normally suited for military service.
Even the pronunciation of the German word for "I" which is ich was an issue. -Tom
