QUEBEC Update: English translation (Google) of the multi-person pit bull attack in Montreal North on Sunday, August 19.

The dog who violently bit two children in a residence in the borough of Montreal-North Sunday had already been aggressive in the past, according to the report of the Police Department of the City of Montreal (SPVM) obtained by Radio- Canada.

A text by Sarah Sanchez

The incident report, which states that six people were injured in all events, describes the animal as a "one-and-a-half year old American pitbull who weighs 70 pounds." The dog expert has not yet confirmed the exact breed of the dog.

According to the nine-page document, the 62-year-old resident of Montreal-North, whose events had agreed to pick up the dog of an acquaintance who wanted to leave because she had just given birth.

The owner of the dog had advised the lady that the animal had to wear a muzzle 24 hours a day because he had already bitten another dog in a park.

The animal arrived Saturday afternoon while the woman had four grandchildren aged 11, 7 and 4, and a 20-month-old baby.

On leaving the car, the animal immediately jumped on the child of 20 months by giving him muzzle shots. Three adults had to intervene to control the dog. He then relapsed on the 4-year-old girl.

The grandmother of the children is used to collecting animals to ensure the transition between the master, the SPCA and the new host family.

She had also initiated proceedings with Freedom drivers, which was to pick up the animal the next day and then transfer it to New Brunswick.

During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the dog, still with his muzzle, once again attacked the 20-month-old baby, terrorizing him and making him fall from his bed.

The grandmother then decided to tie the dog between the two doors of the entrance.

The situation is degenerating The next day, around 10 am, the animal managed to get rid of his muzzle, but as he was playing quietly with the children, the grandmother did not give it to him.

According to the testimonies collected by the police, the dog was free in the house, without muzzle.

Moments later, the animal bit the skull of the 4-year-old girl. The grandmother tried in vain to restrain the dog by pulling on his collar in addition to knocking him on the head with a screwdriver.

She took the girl out of the house and finally managed to lock the dog again.

A lady from Freedom drivers arrived at the scene, but instead of picking up the dog as planned, she had to take the girl to the hospital since the grandmother does not have a car.

Neither the police nor the ambulance were called at this time.

The grandmother called her daughter to come and take care of the children, left alone at home.

His daughter asked him to call the police, but the grandmother told him that it was not worth it because the SPCA had to arrive from one moment to the next to pick up the dog.

The mother arrived 30 minutes later with three other children.

Around 3 pm, she went out to smoke a cigarette. That’s when the dog managed to escape. The woman, panicked, asked the children to go out the window of the room. The dog still managed to attack the 7-year-old, who suffered a serious open fracture to the arm.

A neighbor and passers-by to help children A neighbor, who heard screams, then went to the residence to try to rescue the children. With a shovel, he hit the dog in the head. The animal then pursued the children, who managed to escape outside the residence.

A motorist, who also heard screams, then got out of his vehicle to rescue one of the children who seemed to be the next victim of the dog. The man took the young man in his arms and raised him in the air so that the dog could not bite him, but to no avail. The animal managed to bite the child at the left buttock and bit the driver at the joints.

The dog was finally stopped by another passer-by, who managed to put his foot on his leash. He was then able to control the beast until the police arrived.

In total, six people were injured.

Interesting how the article neglected to mention that the vicious dog was a pit bull.

PC for dogs. Who’da thunk?

I can't help but notice that this is the only kind of article you post. Do you have an axe to grind?

Step 1 - shoot the dog.

Step 2 - put granny in prison.

It sounds like the dog was just taken over, without having been subjected to obedience training to break any bad habits acquired from the previous owner. In addition, the dog was left alone with small children. On top of that, it wasn’t properly restrained. Finally, the question is whether the grandchildren were taught about how to interact with dogs, i.e. to avoid things that make even the ones docile vis-a-vis humans uncomfortable. These factors, in combination, were a ticking time bomb, even if you leave out the demonstrated human aggression (i.e. the dog going after the kids when muzzled) and potential breed issues.

I believe it is healthiest to hold the owners responsible for their pet’s behavior.

The Quebec government had also considered breed-specific province-wide legislation against pit bulls before backtracking because the available scientific data did not warrant going ahead with it.

ha ha

Facts can be annoying

Don't bother flaming me. I won't read it. :-)

The dog belonged to an acquaintance of the children’s grandmother, who was watching the animal in Montreal North gnaw on her own grandchildren.

Fixed.

Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong.
So, AFTER the dog had attacked a helpless baby TWICE,
the Grandmother saw the dog (un-muzzled) moving freely through the house and playing with toddlers.
And even THEN, she did nothing substantial about it.

First mistake was to bring those kids to Granny’s house at all and leave them under her supervision, knowing that the Grandmother managed a Foster Care type set up.
Blue Ribbon idiots, all of them!

The owner of the dog warned the Grandma, that this dog should wear a muzzle, 24/7.
Really? 24/7? That must be torturous for any dog, especially a dog less than two years old, still brimming with energy.
If that condition is needed, then obviously this particular dog is not suit to stay indoors at all unless it’s in a kennel.

Yup didn’t even have to read the article to guess the breed. Kinda like how I can guess with almost 100% success rate the culprit when a “patron” goes berserk in McDonalds or Burger King or a “driver” mows down a bunch of folks on the sidewalk.
