Those NY Harbor battles were Washington’s worst days. Glad it was just that one summer.

I stayed at a Revolutionary era hotel while at Sag Harbor where the front yard was a cemetery from that time. Interesting markers.

Darkest days of the war. New York was the only major city which continued to be occupied by the enemy for the duration of the war . . . and the vast majority of the time ever since. The largest and most deadly race riots in the history of the nation took place there during and after the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg.
Many of the victorious union troops had to be rushed from the battlefield to save the city from being burned down.

I had planned to go to Green-Wood Cemetery to mark the occasion, but that didn’t work out for me.

Washington was trapped between the Hessians and the Black Watch. He managed to escape.

What was the name of that hotel? I'd love to perhaps stay there. I'm from LI and go back periodically. I love LI. This is a painting of a small very old cemetery in East Hampton, LI that I did. It's just off Montauk Hwy (Main Street).

Wow - beautiful work. I’m sorry I don’t know the name since it was my parents who booked the rooms. All I can remember is it was straight out of town, going east, and it was on the left side of the street; white with a green roof, two story maybe three. I guess just ask where the Revolutionary cemetery is and there’s the hotel.

Thank you for the compliment on my painting. I kinda love old graveyards, ones that look woodsy and all.
I tried to find that hotel but could not (using Google maps) and so I’ve asked a friend of mine who lives in Sag Harbor.
I totally enjoyed the video on the Long Island battle, and watched this one next, which was long but exceedingly well done.

Hopefully it’s not been torn down - the grave yard should still be there as a reference point.
