SMITHVILLE, Ohio - A school resource officer in Ohio is on unpaid leave after officials said she activated a Taser to wake a student who had fallen asleep in class. The student was not shocked in the alleged incident.
Maryssa Boskoski was a part-time officer, assigned as a school resource officer at Liberty Preparatory School in Smithville, Ohio, WEWS reported.
The student wouldnt wake up for his teacher or the schools interim principal.
Boskoski was in the classroom with the principal when she turned on the Taser a few feet from the high school junior.
She did take her Taser, remove the cartridge from it, and arced the Taser, Smithfield Police Chief Howard Funk told WEWS.
Funk said that the probes were not deployed and the Taser never came in contact with the student.
But the combination of the Tasers noise and the classroom commotion did wake up the student, WEWS reported.
The principal, Jenna Parnell, said Boskoski didnt warn anyone before turning on the Taser.
Funk expects to meet with the village solicitor to determine if criminal charges should be filed, but said that Boskoski violated the departments Taser policy and her job could be in jeopardy, WEWS reported.
The school sent a letter to parents about the incident.
Oh brother!
“Activated?” “Deployed?” They should try speaking English. Fake military lingo from civilians looks stupid.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME????
IF a student during daytime hours could not be awakened.... don’t you suppose SOMETHING MIGHT BE WRONG? Sick perhaps?
Describe for us, school safety office HOW you tried to awaken the student?
Taser? Try it on them.
Snowflake wussies. The school had to send a letter home because of this?
What next? Grief counselors? Therapy dogs?
Dammit. She didn’t tase anyone. Didn’t harm anyone. I think she proved a point in a rational way. It woke that idiot up, right?
In my day, there was no tazers. A coach would have kicked the chair out from under us, and we would have landed on our butt.
Everyone would have laughed. Including the one who was sleeping!
Pussies.
Something wrong with them? Yeah, that’s why the teacher called the school cop. Kid was an attitude problem...guaranteed.
So, it was effective. Tasers should be required in every classroom.
Don’t tase me bro!
When I was a kid, it was a smack upsida the head by either a book or the teacher's hand.........I don't see any problem here.
Smells like...BS. Kid couldn’t be awoken by teacher, principal and SRO, but suddenly woke at the sound of a taser? Kid wasn’t asleep. Officer found a way to get their attention.
That or a blackboard eraser hurled at your head.
It’s a private school. The real meaning of that letter is: the rumors are true, one of our teachers assaulted a student, we’re fixing it, please don’t pull your kid out and make us go bankrupt.
I”m with WaterWeWaitinFor on this. Why didn’t the teacher call the School Nurse?
In Army Intelligence school we had a Marine Gunnery Sergeant instructor who would throw a tomahawk at the chalkboard if he thought the class was dozing. Woke us right up.
the classroom commotion
was the giggling too loud? or have students forgotten how to do that, too?
Sort of makes you wonder what happened to the kid in the past that the sound awakened him.
Why would a private prep school even need a school resource officer (cop)?
Something doesn’t add up.
Sounds like a shocking solution to an annoying problem. A bit aggressive but acceptable. I would be on the teachers side had it been my son.
