Search teams found a woman's body in Lake Travis Friday morning, near the area where a woman fell from a party barge. The Travis County Sheriff's Office said a dive team found the body at a depth of 117 feet around 10:30 a.m. The body has not been officially identified as Rachel Kathleen Scott, who fell off the top deck of a party barge May 19 near Volente Beach and disappeared. After days of searching, divers and other teams could not find her. Divers with both Travis County and the Austin Police Department periodically checked the area this summer. That's what they were doing Friday when the body was found. The body will go to the medical examiner, who will determine the identity.

She was 25. This is the deepest they have found a body. Lake Travis is about 860 feet deep. They had video where she fell off the party barge. Thee are drownings there every summer because of all the partying and acting stupid.

The lake is NOT 860 ft deep!

You are probably reading the surface elevation of the lake.

Seems odd that she didn’t float eventually.

I was wondering how many lead weights she was wearing, myself. At some point one would think she’d build up enough gasses to float.

At that depth, a human body has negative buoyancy, even with some decomposition. That's how free divers keep reaching such depths. They swim down until they begin to fall.

The trick is turning around and swimming back up without passing out first.

I am confused.

I was always taught that unless the lake was VERY cold, as the body decomposes, the gases in the body cause the corpse to rise to the top of the water....

How cold is that lake?

My cardiac surgeon committed suicide at Center Hill Lake on the Cumberland Plateau

In the deepest part

Shot himself and weight his body....in his kayak

People think anyhow.....a few witnesses.......saw him preparing.....several affairs with same nurse and a couple failed marriages

Sad

Had more volume of open heart procedures than anyone alive at the time

St Thomas Nashville

Body never found

Water depth around 200 foot
