During a weekend meeting, the Board of Trustees decided to change the names of both Robinson Hall and the Lee-Jackson House.
These changes come after President Will Dudley's August response to the university's report of the Commission on Institutional History and Community.
Robinson Hall will be renamed Chavis Hall in recognition of John Chavis, the first African-American to receive a college education in the United States, according to the university.
Chavis graduated from Washington and Lee’s predecessor, Washington Academy, in 1799.
The previous namesake, John "Jockey" Robinson, helped found the academy in 1803, according to the university. Robinson left then Washington College his lands and the bulk of his possessions, according to his will. It's estimated that Robinson owned 73 to 84 slaves at the time of his death.

1.The portraits of Robert E. Lee and George Washington in military attire will be replaced by portraits of them in civilian clothes.
Do not want to trigger snowflakes by showing 2 of the greatest military leaders in the horror military uniforms.
How about just be done with it and disinter Robert E. Lee ad other Lees buried at this school and send the remains to Stratford Hall, the Lee ancestral home.

so one of the founders gets dismissed for the hope of diversity in building names? real stupid - they must not have enough useful work to do.
Why not build something different or put up a new statue or area of park on the campus and name it after the new person they want to honor? Otherwise the new person named gets named on a used building or bridge or whatever, how is that an honor?
Also confusing when they rename roads etc. People know them for years, decades as one name then it changes and can be confusing. I suppose same for people going to a school or alumni or even admin folks when they are talking or discussing things.
Not to mention it dishonors the relatives of friends of the people who’s ancestor’s name is being taken off it.
Just change the name to Unicorn University and be done with it.

I’m sure the alumni, on whom they depend on donations, will appreciate it.
I just wonder if whites will ever stand up to it? This will not stop unless we make it so. Anything prior to 1965 is in the crosshairs. And don’t think that more current historical figures are immune. After all Trump is a ‘racist’.
This has happened in the mainline Protestant churches as well - the draft dodgers in the 60s got deferments for being in seminary, they then took jobs as assistant pastors in the churches and they have imprinted their leftwing ideology on every aspect of these mainline churches.
