Former Panthers receiver Rae Carruth will be released from prison on Oct. 22, less than 18 years after he was convicted for conspiracy to commit murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and using an instrument to destroy an unborn child.
Carruth's ex-girlfriend Cherica Adams who was seven months pregnant with Carruth's son was shot while driving her BMW in Charlotte on Nov. 16, 1999. The shooter was hired by Carruth.

That’s a sad picture
The kid has brain damage and cerebral palsy. He was “born” premature due to the shooting and was deprived of oxygen. He’s turning/turned 18 y/o.
Carruth’s mother tried four times for joint custody of Chancellor. She thinks her son should have a relationship with his child. Thankfully courts disagreed!
Earlier this year Carruth said he wanted a relationship upon his release, but recently has changed his mind and says he will not pursue it.
