I’m in favor of dropping the provisional ballot as a voting option.
I would add eliminating mail-in ballots unless you are not in the country during early voting AND election day.
This year in NJ, where I have voted in every election for 34 years except the last one, I was denied access and had to file a provisional ballot as did my wife. Last election we were travelling and did an absentee ballot. Somehow this put us in the provisional category even though our names were in the book in front of us. Something is wrong with getting put on an invalid list without knowing about it. As I said to my British friend afterwards, in a country where I can email an order to Amazon and get deliver flawlessly the next week, why can’t I vote easily and accurately?
I worked 3 polls. I super provisional ballots. All you have to do is confirm them as legitimate at the registrars office. if there is confusion or incorrect info on the rolls provisional lets someone vote without having to contact the county in the middle of action day. If they can’t be confirmed then the vote isn’t counted.
the right to vote should not be denied because the county messed up
