With the new Mystery Science Theater 3000 season hitting Netflix on Thanksgiving, the MST3K Turkey Day marathon comes early this year.
Thanksgiving Day is always a big deal for Mystery Science Theater 3000. Its when the show debuted way back in 1988, its when the upcoming MST3K season 12 will debut on Netflix, and its when they regularly do their annual Thanksgiving marathon. The fact that its going to be the 30 year anniversary of the show helps make it seem like an even bigger deal this year.
Theres been an elephant in the room, though. Theres a little too much going on this Thanksgiving. How are you supposed to enjoy the MST3K Turkey Day Marathon, which is ultimately a handful of beloved reruns with unique introductions, when theres a whole season of episodes suddenly ready for you to watch? Its like when youre aiming a gun back and forth between two people who look the same and wonder which one youre supposed to shoot, only this time its a positive thing.

So instead, Shout! Factory TV will be broadcasting the Turkey Day Marathon on Sunday, November 18. Starting at 12pm ET, they will show six classic episodes with new intro segments by Joel Hodgson and Jonah Ray. There will also be sneak previews of MST3K season 12, otherwise known as Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Gauntlet.
During the day, fans are encouraged to share their thoughts on their favorite memories of the show with the social media hashtag #MST3KTurkeyDay.

Then on Thursday, the new season will hit. While its cut down to a scant six episodes compared to last seasons thirteen, it does have a gimmick going for it where its supposed to be binge-watched over the course of eight hours or so. Gimmicky ratings ploys are Kinga Forrester's thing, after all.
Reminder: the marathon on Sunday will not be the new episodes. Those will drop on Thursday like normal.

Steve!?
I have never liked Mystery Science Theater.
I grew up watching SciFi in the 50s and loving it.
Then some cretin thought it would be funny to have a bobble head make snarky comments during the film.
Now it is hard to find the originals without the giggling snark.
I hope they lose their shirts on this.
Yep! The “Crawling Eye” will never be the same.
thx
Not everybody is Steve!
“Push the button, Frank.”
The new version sucks. So bad I would rather watch the movies without their comments.
That douche Oswald Cobblepot or whatever his name is, is a fun sucker. When he appears on screen, plants die.
Pumaman - he flies like a moron.
If you download the app, Pluto TV on your TV or Roku or phone, it is free, there is a MST3K channel. MST3K 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. and the channel under that one has MST3K with the guys as they are not in their robot costumes.
I saw the 30th Anniversary Live Show the other day!
A great time!
Sand Storm....SAND STORM!!!!!!!
First up on Hearts of Space, John Tesh with "Whispering Firestorm." Then it's Yani with, "SnoreMaster of Trafalgamar." Then comes bay area musician DelMondo with his, "Sominex Suite in B-flat." Then a synthesized interplanetary salute to Perry Como. At the end of the hour, we'll have information about the types of sedatives used by tonight's artists, on Music... from... The Hearts... of Space.
No movie should be off-limits for being made fun of.
