The 1911 was more effective at killing the Muzzies than the 38 but what really ended the war was when they started coating the 45 bullets with bacon grease, so I have read.

WWI Armistice Centennial Match The pistol stage of this video shows a good comparison of the "fast 9mm" vs. the "heavy .45". Plus, it looks like the participants are having a great time. That Aussie can really run that bolt on his SMLE (towards the end). :-)
