The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed any time-and don't have to be about gardening.
Earlier in the week, we had a glorious day of relatively mild temperatures and sunshine. I rearranged the greenhouse and swept it's floor. Now all the smaller plants are up on a table with a grow light, and the larger plants on dollies but well away from the electric heater.
I also swept a patio, and worked on organizing the shed. Hubby got a lot of leaves blown into heaps and covered with tarps. Then he mulched a couple of those with the wood chipper and transferred to his compost heap. He'll work on it more when the weather permits.
An old crock pot on the table is helping to keep the humidity up as well as the temp. One of the branches of tomatoes that I stuck in a pot has taken root and growing. It now has flowers.
Brought the lemon tree indoors so I could smell the wonderful blossoms. Hope you are enjoying the weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
*BUMP* for morning coffee...
Just checked my Hydroponic Garden in San Diego. Everything looking really GOOD! Best way to do it!!!
Hai!
Howdy Folks.
What in your opinion is the best tasting heirloom tomato you have encountered?
So far my favorite is the Black Krim.

I liked Mortgage Lifter and Cherokee Purple.
Anyone need some pine boughs for wreaths, etc ?
Had a bit of ice recently and the guys with the chipper haven't gotten here yet.
Sure wish they'd hurry tho .. me and the chainsaw 'bout had another heart attack cuttin' all the big stuff into manageable chunks.
That's my raised 'garden' bed in the foreground beside the shop, all settled down for its long winter's nap.
Might have tomatoes in it again in four or five months, assuming it's thawed out by then.
I post this as a public service in order to inspire gratitude among FReepers in keeping with the ostensible spirit of the season (fofl).
Merry Christmas y'all !
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you too. We have a bunch of cedar boughs. Hubby has a dislike of cedar trees due to some sort of thing that kills apple trees.
For 2 years he’s been working on felling the 2cnd of 3 big cedar trees on our property. The first he turned into fence posts for his grapevines.
I hope I can take a couple of garden photos tomorrow to post here if I can remember the HTML code. It looks like I have a good crop of common vetch for a winter cover crop on most of the beds...
Early spring dust from cedars makes me sneeze.
I am liking postimage.org. Free, no ads, fast and it gives you the code so I just copy and paste. Very easy to use. Looking forward to your pictures.
We have seeds arrived for paprika and large jalapeños for 2019. Wife in the Ozarks will pick out tomatoe seeds in the next few weeks. Not sure about beans, peas, etc...
We’ll start seeds in February in our lakeside beach house. It’s perfectly pointed to catch Februry-March-April sun to perk up our seedlings.
I’ll give that a try! I’m starting to have short term memory problems as is one of my long term friend (I’m 85 & he is 75)
I look forward to seeing the pics.
That’s interesting. I had never heard of that before.
85 wonderful! It must be all that beautiful garlic. On post image after you sign up, upload then click on the picture you want then click share. It will give you a list of links. Pick the last one called hotlink. Copy and paste into the FR posting window.
Understanding the winter months and sun location is critical to getting an early start to seedlings.
I bet you knew that.
Yeh, I knew it, but it doesn’t stop me from trying to get around it with trying various methods and tricks to get a head start, but as we know, we seem to have limits to how early we can actually be successful.
