I do too and never took him seriously. I don't think he does either.
I think I gained a lot of appreciation for him after watching him on The Haney Project.
And this comment:

I’ve met him several times at the Basketball of Fame. Spent several moments “back stage” in his company. He seemed like a genuinely nice man. He was patient and respectful. He made sure I was able to do my job well.
That was not true of several other NBA Hall of Famers.
