A huge loophole in Washington’s messy immigration laws has paved the way for over 8,000 child marriages, mostly to girls brought in from outside the country, including 14-year-olds, according to a new Senate report released Friday morning.

year-long investigation, puts attention on a quirk in policies that promote child marriages and trafficking in the U.S. at a time when the State Department is fighting child marriages overseas.

Some of those seeking visas were older citizens, others were to very young citizens seeking to bring their spouses into the U.S., including those who were forced into marriage overseas and encouraged to bring their spouses to America.

[[puts attention on a quirk in policies that promote child marriages and trafficking in the U.S. at a time when the State Department is fighting child marriages overseas.]]

So lemme get this straight- child trafficking by illegals ok- child marriages to pedophiles by illegals is ok, child abuse via genital mutilation which ruins a girl for life is ok if the family is illegal or different culture- but spanking a child for correction i n a Christian family is not ok? Taking a confused sick child to reparative therapy so they don’t end up in a self-destructive, drug riddled- suicide prone lifestyle is not ok?

I don’t get it. If a US citizen goes overseas to engage in ‘sex tourism’ with a minor he will be charged with a crime. (Though it seems it would make more sense to extradite him to his travel destination for him to be prosecuted and imprisoned there.) If he marries her we gain another citizen.

Always thought it was funny that when my wife and I got married in 1967, I was 18 and she was 19, and I had to get my parent’s permission and she didn’t have to get hers.

In Alabama at the time, guys needed permission until they were 21, but girls only needed to be 18.

I guess it’s worked, since we celebrated our 51st anniversary this past September.

It used to be common in America for women to get married at 14 or 15 years of age and start families.

That just about sums it up.
How about 18 year olds locked up and having to register as a sex offender for having consensual relations with a 16 year old girlfriend, and her parents filed suit?

Then, other people can force their 14 year old daughter to marry an old man from another country, and that’s just fine, bring him on over.

On January 10, 1948, 15-year-old Loretta Webb married (21 Year old) Oliver Vanetta “Doolittle” Lynn[3] (August 27, 1926 – August 22, 1996), and the two soon relocated to northern Washington in the Pacific Northwest. The happiness and heartache of her early years of marriage would help to inspire Lynn’s songwriting.

In 1953, Doolittle bought her a $17 Harmony guitar.[5] She taught herself to play the instrument, and over the following three years, she worked to improve her guitar playing. With Doolittle’s encouragement, she started her own band, Loretta and the Trailblazers, with her brother Jay Lee playing lead guitar.

She often appeared at Bill’s Tavern in Blaine, Washington, and the Delta Grange Hall in Custer, Washington, with the Pen Brothers’ band and the Westerneers. She cut her first record, “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl”, in February 1960.

The Lynns had six children together:

Betty Sue Lynn (November 26, 1948 – July 29, 2013)
Jack Benny Lynn, (December 7, 1949 – July 24, 1984)
Clara Marie “Cissie” Lynn (born April 7, 1952)
Ernest Ray “Ernie” Lynn (born May 27, 1954)
Peggy Jean and Patsy Eileen Lynn (born August 6, 1964; twin daughters named for Lynn’s sister Peggy Sue Wright and her close friend Patsy Cline)

Two years after her twins Peggy and Patsy were born, Lynn became a grandmother at age 34. She has 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren as of August 2017.

The Lynns were married for almost 50 years until Doolittle died at age 69 in 1996. In her 2002 autobiography Still Woman Enough and in an interview with CBS News the same year, she recounted how her husband cheated on her regularly and once left her while she was giving birth.[19] She and her husband fought frequently, but she said that “he never hit me one time that I didn’t hit him back twice”. Loretta has said that her marriage was “one of the hardest love stories”.[20][page needed] In one of her autobiographies, she recalled:

I married Doo when I wasn’t but a child, and he was my life from that day on. But as important as my youth and upbringing was, there’s something else that made me stick to Doo. He thought I was something special, more special than anyone else in the world, and never let me forget it. That belief would be hard to shove out the door. Doo was my security, my safety net. And just remember, I’m explainin’, not excusin’... Doo was a good man and a hard worker. But he was an alcoholic, and it affected our marriage all the way through.

So there are men who have been imprisoned for having relations with their younger classmates and the feds are letting these primitives in with child brides? Due process anyone?

Absolutely GREAT story!

Many thanks for that!

I’ll share it with my C&W-lovin’, violin-plain’ daughter.

Need to look at States laws ... as far as I know there is no Fed age limit.... number of States have no set age and NH has 13/14 respectively with parental consent/judge’s OK
