The hospital is private and pre-dates socialized medicine in Canada. Abdominal wall surgery is the only thing done in the hospital. They know what they do.
If you are covered by Canadian medicine, the government will fund a part of the cost, but you or your private insurance will need to chip in something.
I suspect that $5000 to $8000 would be rather inexpensive for a hernia operation in the states.
And if the assaulter is on the hook for the medical bills, maybe this one will be a lot more than would be charged in the US. ??
