Michigan State University's interim president John Engler is stepping down after he said some victims of the school's sex abuse scandal were "enjoying" their "moment in the spotlight."
Engler, who is Michigan's former governor, was brought in to help the university recover from the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal. But MSU's Board of Trustees was set to meet Thursday to fire him following his comments about some of the women who were sexually abused by Nassar, who was the school's sports doctor.

Engler ... was brought in to help the university recover from the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal.
Stick both feet in your mouth and see how that works out.
What an ultra maroon!
I fail to see why his statement is controversial, just a fact.
There are many Larry Nassars out there and the Academic community tolerates them and laments only when there is bad publicity. Homosexual molesters are especially protected.
That’s probably why its controversial.
Enjoying it? What, needing therapy for years, contemplating suicide, feeling broken, having no trust in people, especially in those who were supposed to protect you?
Damn. Why not blame these girls, who were all minors at the time these things occurred, for seducing him into doing these terrible things to them? Why not blame them for wanting to chase their dreams of being an Olympic athlete?
You might want to reconsider the enormous damage that happens when you are repeated assaulted by someone you should be able to trust.
Oh, right. Being blamed for being raped for years is their fault. He couldn't help it.
He should have known better. Even though there may be some truth to his opinion. Yes, there are Drama Queens, yes there are what may appear to be Professional Victims, turning tragic events into something lucrative, but this is not the time or format to present such views. Such a moment may never happen in any public way. This time, it has little to do with what political party he comes from.
What was that old phrase some judge used about an abuse victim; that “she should just lie back and enjoy it.”
This is how out of touch the former governor sounds.
Maybe Clayton Williams will give him a job. Same type of tone deaf Republican who makes sure the Democrats win.
It's blowback from what the Stalinists and Leninists have wrought! They'll happily throw one of their own under the bus if convenient. I say since he got the job in the first place he deserves it!
Even if the statement were true.....it was Nassler’s horrendous crimes that brought them to that place.
“You might want to reconsider the enormous damage that happens when you are repeated assaulted by someone you should be able to trust.”
Exactly. Thank you.
Some things can at the same time be true and yet incredibly stupid to say.
This is one of those things. I have questioned his judgment ever since he was my Governor and he chose to marry a young blonde lawyer who immediately went on a statewide speaking tour attacking her husband’s Pro Life stance.
