Hundreds of public schools and several large universities from North Dakota to Pennsylvania canceled classes on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the dangerous temperatures.

'Now we cancel school for cold?' he told host Terry Meiners on Tuesday.

Born in Plattsburgh, NY, all of 56 miles to Montreal, Canada. We never had a snow/weather day in the early 50’s. We carried our ice skates to Kindergarten.
I can get anywhere, no matter the weather.
This is about kids.

I got an email from my bank in a western suburb of Minneapolis. They closed early and are opening later than usual tomorrow. Bunch of pussies.
My wife works for the State. She goes to work every day and so does everyone else in her department.
It happened here. A kid lost a finger from frostbite waiting for the bus. So, they don’t have school anymore when it’s this cold. When I was a kid they would just blame it on the parents for dressing their kids properly.
Everybody I know went to work today, except me.
I have a good friend who works for the State. He went to work.
Good point !
There are poor counties and towns in appalachia that don’t have the resources to get every back road on the side of every hill. thats a factor too.
Our area kids were out two days now but they dont miss school. They each have take home computers (all grades) and they have assignments that need to be completed and turned in to the teacher by specific times. Our school system never has snow days.
Public schools don’t offer anything that is worth your children suffering frostbite or any other cold related injuries.
Uh, he was referring specifically to Kentucky schools being closed. There was no snow or ice on the roads and the temperatures were low single digits. Also, he was half joking if you listen to his full interview.
“Kentucky governor says America is weak”
“Bevin, in an interview with NewsRadio 840 WHAS , said America was weak because of it.”
‘I mean, what happens to America? We’re getting soft.’
If 100 kids go to school there is one building to heat to keep them warm and 100 homes where the temperature can be turned down while the kids are in school and the parents are at work. Less demand for natgas that way.
The day of the one room school house is long gone.
Also the days of natural gas shortages are long gone.
Poor counties all over Kentucky. And many backroads and hills even in better off ones too.
Growing up in school in Kentucky, we were expected in school regardless. A lot of kids had to get early and feed the livestock irrespective of weather before the start of school.
Now they get off school just on a forecast. The screw off day is for the teachers, more than anything, who don’t want to be inconvenienced.
You don’t have the ability to deal with the cold. There will be issues due to this. Am from Wisconsin, you are soft! Grow up, are you a millennial or something?
Ditto for me in the ‘50s and ‘60s - in Buffalo. You didn’t even see the school bus lights until it stopped for you because it as snowing so hard. “Snow days” - pffft!
Count Yourself Lucky. In Winnepeg its 40 below. A normal Canadian winter. Lasts about 3 weeks to 6 weeks.
Where is that global warming?
