This article is correct, but for the wrong reasons. Why does Nepal or Senegal need Americans to dig wells or install water purification systems? What’s wrong with their local government or citizens?

Lots of suburban kids in our area go on these “missions.” Raise money to send a white kid to hug black children in Haiti for a week.

I agree. Our Catholic school has senior mission trips to central america to build concrete block”schools” and crap. And they come back with slide shows of all the wonderful people they met, who didn’t seem the least bit retarded or physically disabled. Never understood it, myself, and never gave any money.

I agree. “Missions” are a scam. If you want to help the “poor” in Haiti, help them get a functioning government.

I saw a BBC video about a tribe that lived in the desert (As Sam Kinison said, "MOVE OUT OF THE DESERT!).

Their only source of water was a rill a long distance away.

Every day individuals would trek to the rill to scoop up dirty water.

No one thought to build a sled to carry water for everyone.

No one thought to DIG A DEEP HOLE so the water would collect in the hole and they could get clean water.

No one thought to re-channel the water.

No one thought to move closer to the water source or MOVE OUT OF THE DESERT!.

You can't help people who won't or can't help themselves.
