I kinda did. But my cat would come over when called and was more than obvious about knowing what is ok and what’s not.
If I went away on return, she’d come over and talk for a few seconds saying, “Where you been?”
So, this is vastly unstated IMHO.

My cats and my dogs know that it is their job to watch out for my feet. Their job to look out. I will not step out of their way, and if they are not paying attention they will be stepped on. Keeps them alert and out from underfoot.
