PDJT Needs "Big Mandate" Issues For 2020: Break up social media as public utilities
4-22-2019 | Me

Posted on 04/22/2019 5:24:01 PM PDT by fuzzylogic

The big social media tech companies are controlling our society, every day the software and back-end data sharing knows everything about everyone and has the ability to deplatform anyone based on their political views - including financial transactions. It is happening. It has to stop. This should be a campaign promise.

2020 will still be about the border.

How about lock her up and build a wall? Seems, however, I’ve heard those before.

I support smaller government with a reduced role in the life of the citizens, not this idea.

I agree but he needs more than one.

My argument is that a free virtual public space should have the same free speech rules as a free physical public space.

They’ve become too big and are too influential on society.

Is there a reason the current ‘bust the trust’ regulators are standing silent now? They already know if a company has monopoly power. Or oligopoly power anyway.

To answer your question, I think the onslaught of illegals crossing the border AND the tons of foreigners overstaying their visas should be priority number one. If meaningful action isn’t taken soon we are in real trouble.

Also getting out of these perpetual wars and conflicts should be near the top of the list the way I see it.

I agree about small government. That’s not the issue. It’s about big tech taking over control of peoples lives. Those with “wrong think” are being banned from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and even having financial accounts closed by the likes of Chase Bank.

These are Nazi-like tactics.

I completely agree. See post #8. PDJT needs more than just one or two issues to run on.

If conservatives walk away from FB and an entrepreneur launches a more open-minded social media site, FB can become a boring liberal wasteland.

There's no role for government in controlling content on social media. There are lags, but eventually the market will address the issue.

There’s millions that can only connect to family members through these sites that won’t walk away. My family is spread across a number of countries. I’ve tried to get them to do something else, in vain.

Every month the influence of these companies grows. Say the wrong thing (typically a conservative view on many topics) and you’re gone, not just from one account but many. When it becomes financial, as it now is, we’re stepping into dangerous ground.

BTW - I’m NOT saying GOVERNMENT should be “controlling” social media. I’m saying they’ve become too big, these tech companies are now too powerful. They need to be broken up, which aligns with existing anti-trust laws.

“I support smaller government with a reduced role in the life of the citizens, not this idea.”

Of course. Libertarian lunatics support one railroad, one phone company, one grocery store, one gas station, one ice cream flavor, and one libertarian fascist controlling it all.

Yeah not very good optics when your 2020 campaign is making promises that were also made in 2016... “Lock her up”... “drain the swamp”... “make America great again”... “build a big beautiful golden wall” etc.

I don’t like tariffs but with China they make sense.

And I don’t like the government interference in the private sector, but anti-monopoly laws have been on the books for decades for a reason.

Something akin to the breakup of AT&T might be in order.

Put a little meat on that bone.

What’s “too big”?

Don’t you just despise lefties? Leftism being the first fruit of evil and all, right?

Boy, you're a dense one. As I said, I support a market solution. A competitor needs to arise to challenge FB or Twitter. There are no major structural impediments to challenging FB - somebody just needs to put up a better platform and convince people to use it.

Or you could just support government intervention, because government control of information is always the key to living in a free society.

Break FB up into what? Little Facebooks? You still have to address the problem that everybody will gravitate towards a common arena, because that's the whole point of social media. Build a better product and entice people to use it - that's the solution.

It will be difficult, but government mandated solutions tend towards totalitarianism.

“Boy, you’re a dense one.”

Not as dense as you, boy. Waiting 40 years for an alternative to social media will result in communism or a civil war. Ron Paul clowns think the Constitution is a suicide pact.

Harry Brown warned libertarians about Ron Paul lunatics. Ron Paul is well-known for open borders and not doing anything to stop the invasion.

Fake libertarians teamed up with communists to take over the Libertarian Party back in the 1990s.

You’re not libertarians; you’re libertine pot smokers.
