I hope everyone has been able to enjoy Spring migration, when it finally decided to become somewhat Spring-like.

A week later Eastern Screech-Owl - grey morph in same cavity. Someone else photographed both in the hole together shortly after.

I’ve seen the Red Start once. We’ve had 5 Northern Orioles and 4 or 5 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks for about a month until Fri/Sat. They ate 1/2 jar of grape jam and 5 oranges. So much fun. Delightful to birdwatch from your own window!
Sometime in March, the most God-awful racket started on our bedroom fireplace flue cap up on the roof. I finally found out it was a Northern Flicker calling a mate. Apparently they like to rat-a-tat on metal because it is far louder that drumming on a tree or a snag. After about five or six weeks, Mr. Flicker took off, and peace was restored. Not sure if he found a mate, though. I only was able to spot him once beating on the flue cap, but he was so far away I couldn’t get a pic.
No pictures yet ... but my Humming birds were back, right on time My 10th here in NH.
I have 3 feeders out for them.

Southern Wisconsin report.... I’ve seen hummingbirds, orioles, one scarlet tananger, two indigo buntings, and the pretty gray bird I saw last summer (forgot the name).
We have so many more birds here than at our previous house. Having woods here makes a huge difference. We hear owls here. That’s cool every time. Have not seen them yet.
Cool pictures- becoming an avid bird watcher myself these days. I thought the trumpeter Swan was gone? Saw five swans on a pond late this winter ( in Central MO no less)- then saw a pair a few days later flying overhead, studied up a bit and figured they were Tundra Swans due to the straight necks vice bent necks of the Mute and the Audubon’s description of the Trumpeter being extirpated/extinct....
I’m assuming that SWAMPSNIPER has departed to the Great Beyond?

Gotta tell ya...I adore these birds. I had one during the winter, on a bitter, bitter cold morning, landed in my hand for the peanut, but didn't take the peanut. Instead, he settled right down into my cupped hand and stayed there for about five seconds or so, not moving, just looking at me. He wanted to just get warm. It was one of the most charming things...ever!

The humming birds showed up here at 10k feet in the Rockies. Bet they’re sorry, winter won’t leave, their feeder freezes every night. More snow tomorrow.
