A man accused of swindling $80,000 from a Georgia woman he met online has been arrested in Tennessee -- and is wanted in other states for similar scams, authorities said.
John Martin Hill, 35, connected with the woman from Alpharetta, Georgia, on Match.com in late March, the Gwinnett County Police Department said Wednesday.
Hill took the woman out on a date the same day they met, and the two agreed to get married within a week of meeting, authorities said.
He told the woman he's a millionaire, and they decided to invest in a love nest. The woman gave her now fiancé $80,000 to help with the home's purchase, police said.
"During their short romance, he convinced her that they were in love and wanted to buy a house together. They went house-hunting and selected a home they were interested in," police said.
When he got the money, he cut all contact with the woman, police said.

There is something about a millionaire that just makes you want to give him $80,000.00.

Just one more example, of many, that women are not smarter than men. I don’t know how anyone could give any amount of money to a stranger, much less $80,000. Unfortunately, stupid isn’t a crime. Likely that these will be seen as gifts.

I read it wrong at first. I thought they invested together and he sold or took possession of the property. Wrong! He got her to give him the check for her share of the property he was going to purchase, cashed it, and ran.
I’d give it 6.5/10 for creativity, maybe a bit less.

This just AMAZES me that ANY woman would hand a supposed MILLIONAIRE $80,000.00 after knowing him for only a week!!! When you read stories like this proving how STUPID women can be, it is no wonder our government is infested with people like Schiff, Jackson Lee, Nadler, and the rest, takes STUPID to know and VOTE STUPID!!!

A surprising portion of them is greed. Putting up 80 grand to get access to a millionaire’s bank account often grifts a grifter.
Men are scammed by women day in and day out. Nary a word.
