Authorities said Friday they raided hundreds of black market marijuana operations in Colorado that flouted the states cannabis law by growing tens of thousands of plants in Denver-area homes and selling the drugs out of state.
Investigators seized more than 80,000 plants and 4,500 pounds (2,040 kilograms) of harvested marijuana, state and federal prosecutors said at a news conference. Officers raided 247 homes and eight businesses and arrested 42 people in Denver and seven nearby counties.
State law allows up to 12 marijuana plants per residence for personal use, but some of the homes had more than 1,000 and many had hundreds, said U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn.
Colorado and nine other states have broadly legalized marijuana use but it remains illegal under federal law. That has created tension between some state and federal officials.
But George Brauchler, district attorney for the south and east Denver suburbs, stressed the investigation was a joint state-federal operation, not the U.S. Department of Justice imposing its will on Colorado.

All about the taxes...
How many officers or people will be injured, or maybe killed. Because Colorado wants their cut of the sales? You made the drug legal, whats with the raids??
Yep. You know what they say - don't mess with taxes!
This was predictable; the government would tax it into the black market.
A few years back I was predicting that the war on some drugs would not end with legalization. “Just wait until it’s the revenuers, not DEA, coming after your stills...um, I mean plants”.
“We think you have more than the 12 plants allowed by law, open up, we have a warrant”
No knock raids are justified here, the tax cheats could send a plant down the garbage disposer in the time it takes us to politely knock and identify ourselves”.
For your interest.
The law of unintended consequences raises its ugly head again.
Is that law still on the books?
Here in MA my neighbor buys t-shirts off a website then the guy drops off the shirt at his house for $100 dollars that also comes with a “Free Gift”.
But I thought legalization was going to solve our War on Drugs problem.
Guess not.
12?! Dagnabit I thought it was only six so that's all I grew in '15 and '16. Only four were females both years. &*$#&%
I don't know if that's true here. A friend of mine smokes a lot of pot and he buys his from a legal outlet. Says it's a lot cheaper than black market weed. If anyone knows what the going price is he does.
Umm... I thought this kind of stuff wasn’t supposed to happen!
LOL... things were supposed to be easier for law enforcement to deal with!
How could this have gone so wrong???
I suspect that 247 homes was just scratching the surface.
Oh well... they were warned.
Would’ve been better if they raided 420 homes, heh, heh.
CC
What a waste of tax payer money and resources. 250 homes raided? At what cost to the tax payers? 10 million? And all for 4500 pounds of pot? What a farce.
Thats some pretty funny shiite !
That’s usually 6 in flower, and 6 in veg/non flowering.
I knew I shoulda read the rules. lol
80,000 plants? Smoking weed makes you retarded and gay...
