Team manager Scott Servais announced that Haniger was placed on the 10-day injured list after sustaining a serious injury during Thursday’s game against the Houston Astros. He didn’t have a timetable for Haniger's recovery but said he doesn’t “imagine he's going to be doing anything for a couple weeks."

The 28-year-old outfielder sustained the unusual injury during the 3rd inning when a fouled fastball from Justin Verlander appeared to strike Haniger directly in the groin.

He was seen falling over before struggling to get up, using his bat for help. He remained in the game until the 7th inning.

“He remained in the game until the 7th inning.”

I’d have to leave the game immediately just hearing about it.

We Mariners fans know the feeling. It's like that watching the team. Every season.

This isn't the league where you sit around and feel sorry for anybody else.

Maybe, but I have a hunch there were a lot of legs crossing in both dugouts. That said, this is why we wear cups, boys. Any questions?

Verlander throws pretty hard. I think maybe he was wearing a cup but the impact of the pitch still caused an injury.

You really feel a story like that if you're a man.

Reminds me of hospital stories where male patients on morphine with balloon catheters get weird dreams and then sleep walk and and ... ... ... ow.

Yeah, it can, now that I think about it because it happened to me a couple of times - the edge gets driven at the right angle. However, I can think of two Mariners players who didn't and paid this exact price: pitcher Jose Paniagua and third baseman Adrian Beltre. Paniagua got smacked by a hard come-backer and the entire stadium groaned.

I didn’t see that

Indeed

My dad was drafted by the Giants in the Tittle era

He played a college final game with a broken ankle all taped up with lidocaine injections and some war and fuzzy pain relief

All American defensive end

It’s just how real men played

To win

Most players today are so soft
