People are paying greater attention to their mental health and wellness, and many Americans are specifically looking to reduce their alcohol intake. People of all ages are drinking less beer, while millennials are drinking less overall. And Silicon Valley is taking note, with tech companies reevaluating their alcohol policies and investors looking to capitalize on people who prefer not to drink.
Their sales of alcoholic beverages have been declining, big alcohol companies, ranging from Heineken to AB InBev (the owner of popular beer brands such as Budweiser), see an opportunity: They're investing in non-, or low-alcohol drinks. So too, startup investors and entrepreneurs are hoping to cater to the "sober curious," people who for the sake of wellness are reevaluating their relationships with alcohol and how often they drink.
The emergence of sober bars is one of the signals that investor Anu Duggal points to when talking about the trend of not drinking. Duggal, who is based in New York City, said that like Kan, she is noticing "a number of people who are choosing not to drink."

Now we know why the alcohol companies were so anxious to not allow pot to be legalized.
Why poison yourself to get a buzz?
I don’t drink any more,
and I don’t drink any
less.
I’d rather have a full
bottle in front of me
instead of a full frontal
lobotomy.
The shortest distance between

Switch to a light beer....never.
Moderation is key.
100 dollars long, on drinking.
Great article! I cant see any good from alcohol, so Im glad others are also sobering up.
Yes, I believe that's called a "coffee shop." But that wouldn't be very trendy.
Say, I have an idea. Instead of places where people get drunk and call each other bastards and sons of bitches...
...maybe bars can class it up and turn into places where they serve Perrier or Poland Springs and people call each other "chap" and "mate" and use a knife and fork to eat their dessert. Now that could catch on!
People are paying greater attention to their mental health and wellnessSo theyre abandoning leftism and turning more conservative, then?
Millennials don't drink nearly as much as my generation did. I recall during the Kavanaugh hearings how much booze us Gen-X'ers consumed as teens. I was explaining keg parties and getting hammered after school as latchkey kids, sneaking into our parents' liquor cabinets while they were at work. Kids today don't do that stuff. For one, their parents don't have liquor cabinets. For another, the penalties for underage drinking are far more punitive today than they used to be. They just don't find the experience to be worth the price.
Couple of years ago my wife and I were staying at Excalibur in Las Vegas. So we sat at the bar of one of the inside restaurants. She ordered a sweetened drink, and I ordered a scotch and soda tall. I put 20 dollars on the counter, but the bartender didn’t pick it up. He put our receipt on the bar and I saw that the bill was 28 dollars. YIKES, that was 14 dollars a drink! A short time later a young couple on a date sat next to us and I could tell they were unsure of what to order. I showed them my bill and told them this is what it will cost you for two drinks. They each ordered a can of beer. Anyway, we were waiting for dinner, so we left the bar. The nest time we went to Excalibur we didn’t go anywhere NEAR that restaurant bar.
False dilemma. Drinking does not necessarily entail drinking to excess.
There are a number of Bible verses that show drinking wine in a positive light too.
Somebody tell the folks in Kentucky about this. As an Uber driver, I haven’t seen any slacking off yet, among those who drink and need a ride. Especially when the college students are in town.
In the middle East they have perfected the mixed juice fresh herb and soda drinks. Way beyond the virgin drinks in the US.bars and restaurants need to expand there drink menus.
Seriously doubt it. The difference between the 20th and the 21st Century is that there are 20-30,000 different beers now, vs. Miller, bud, Heineken, michalob and Pabst. Just far more selection then when I first started to drink. Coronas and Fosters were considered exotic beers back then. Now a days there are so many microbreweries that people are waking up to find out that our fathers drank swill for beer.
The moslem world is rife with closet drinkers. I think coffee was what mad mo wanted banned. But he settled on booze instead. As long as not drinking is a matter of choice it is ok. However if it becomes a matter of puritanical inclinations it is not ok. Prohibition comes to mind
BS
VFW a pint is $2
Sundays Vets get $1 off
My point was to add very good options for those that do not drink or want to. My wife is one of those. Personally, I would choose a high quality craft or German beer.
My favorite football/ baseball dive has half a pitcher $4.50
