I haven’t heard about Habitat in years. When they started, they would just give people houses with predictable results. Residents would treat the houses as if they were disposable. So Habitat invoked rules when the recipient had to maintain the house to get it. So Habitat ended up with a surplus of houses as there was a shortage of those who would agree to maintain the houses. In dome areas Habitat stopped building completely.
He helped build some homes here in the early 80’s and he looked old back then

There are some semi-detached Habitat houses about 1000 feet from my house.
There was a work contribution requirement and there has been no problem that I know of.
The county paid something like $32,500 per lot just before the 2008 real estate bust. They probably could have got the lots for a third of that two years later.

If he’d stuck to construction instead of politics, the US embassy in Tehran might not have fallen, 52 Americans might not have been held hostage for 444 days, and the Arabs might not have been emboldened to perpetrate all manner of terrorism against the US.
