Food Network star and New York City chef Carl Ruiz died suddenly Saturday. The 44-year-old was the executive chef of La Cubana and a star of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and "Guy's Grocery Games."
La Cubana, which he opened in New York's Meatpacking District this past June, told CBS News it will establish The Carl Ruiz Scholarship Foundation in his honor. The restaurant added that it was "deeply saddened" by the news of his death.
"No words can fully express our sadness at the sudden loss of our dear friend and brother. Beyond his immense culinary talent, Carl's larger-than-life personality never failed to entertain, enlighten, and uplift every person he encountered along his #Ruizing adventures," La Cubana wrote in an Instagram post. "His fierce intellect and infectious humor knew no bounds."

Heck of a good cook too. RIP and my condolences to his family.
Good way to go...............
Toxicology report will tell. RIP
There he was in Flavortown Supermarket and where he got whatever fame he had, Carl “The Cuban” Ruiz. He was in many cooking competitions there and won almost every one of them.
Don’t heart attacks wake people up?
Well, you wake up, but not where you went to sleep...................
It depends on the type.
OH NO... He was one of the reasons I watched that show. He was really funny. RIP, Mr. Ruiz.
“star of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and “Guy’s Grocery Games.”
No that would be Guy Fieri. Was this guy on an Episode of Triple D? Can’t say his photo rings a Bell?
What a shame! RIP. He did seem like a very sweet, good natured fellow.
Seems like being a chef, is a very hazardous job between the eating and all the stress.
there are ‘silent heart attacks’ where people never even knew they had one- but i would imagine massive heart attacks would wake a person up- but people will still say ‘they died peacefully in their sleep of natural causes’ for some reason
Carl was first discovered on DDD as a chef then became a semi regular on GGG as judge and contestant.
RIP Carl you were a riot and must’ve been a great chef.
Speaking of Chefs does anyone know what happened to FR’s resident Chef, Carlo? Can’t find him in the database, maybe he opused?
He was a good friend of Guy’s so he was on DDD quite a lot.
Forgot to add also on many Guy’s Grocery.
