...an ‘Illinois exodus.’ We took a closer look at the reality behind the chatter.

There’s a lot of talk about an ‘Illinois exodus.’ We took a closer look at the reality behind the chatter.

During that time, the gap between the number of people leaving the state and those arriving has widened. Those losses were formerly offset by gains from international migration and births, but these numbers have also decreased recently. As a result, the overall state population began to fall in 2014.

The latest number puts Illinois 49th out of the nation’s 50 states on net migration loss. Only Alaska had a worse rate, with a loss of 11 people per 1,000 residents.

Where Illinois really lags, the data shows, is in attracting new residents. In 2017, Illinois’ rate of in-migration was third-to-last nationally, even when factoring in people who moved to Illinois from other countries.

Of about 339,000 people who reported moving from Illinois to another state in 2017 — roughly 3% of the state’s population — most had been living in Cook County or one of its suburban counties.

Cook County, by comparison, had an estimated 26 people per 1,000 residents leave the state.

Those who left the area were more likely to be young; the largest group, 28%, were in their 20s when they moved away.

“It’s the best,” Thacker said of her new home. Toward the end of their time in the city, Thacker said she found herself thinking, as she searched for street parking: “This is the last straw. I can’t do it anymore.”

“I tell people we spent $3,000 more but got three times the amount of space (a four-bedroom home vs. a three-bedroom condo),” said Wilson, 49, who works at the Indiana University Northwest campus in Gary.

The next gop candidate for governor of Indiana should adopt the slogan, “Build that wall!”

I read that about 10% of the black population of Chicago, moved out between 2010 and 2017.

Decent black folks don’t want to live in Chicago. Decent people of any ethnicity don’t seem to want to be there either.

If people keep moving out, how are they going to have enough taxpayers to support the pension benefits of public employees???

Well, less pockets to pick IS making it harder and harder for the Fat Cat Politicians and the Unionistas to make a living via extortion of the working stiffs, so there’s that! :)

gains from international migration

Exchanging middle and upper income citizens for welfare dependent illegals! Even then, net population declines while taxes continue to increase!

QUESTION:

Is the Illinois exodus being “encouraged” so PROGRESSIVES and FOREIGNERS can buy up houses, farms, business property for a song?

The article’s data are amazingly imprecise—don’t tell you what you want to know.

The lesbian couple that leads the story—tells you all you need to know about the state of modern “journalism”.

(What percentage of couples in IL or IN are lesbian couples—1%?)

The answer is no.

People are getting out because taxes are continually going up to cover the state’s insane public pension liabilities.

The public pensions are guaranteed in the state constitution! In order to buy off the union votes the state legislators entered into a suicide pact which means the debt can never be paid off and it can never be defaulted on.

Insane.

offset by gains from international migration and births,

Illegal aliens sucking up welfare, health care, schooling, housing, and anything else the Illinois taxpayer is willing giving.

I hope this means more losses of congressional districts after the 2020 census. We need a few less blue state electoral votes when Vice President Pence runs in 2024.

I feel for my old neighbors in Illinois. Using Zillow I see that the home I sold back in 1984 now has annual property taxes of around $15K... who is going to want to live there? It was a nice suburb but those taxes are crazy.

We have friends that farm in Winchester. It’s far, far away from the madness that is Chicago, but they’re punished for it through their tax base, too.

Kind of hard to leave a place that’s been in your family for hundreds of years, though. :(

As someone who lives in Minneapolis-St Paul, I can attest to the fact that there’s been an inflow of Illinois (primarily Chicago) residents in the last 30 years.

And trust me folks, I’m not talking about members of the Lions or Rotary Clubs that are moving up here. We’re talking about low educated, work indifferent, values compromised individuals.

Why are they here? Many have some up to take advantage of Minnesota’s comparably good welfare and social benefits. They’re not here to learn skiing.

And they’re bringing with them the problems of Chicago - crime, drugs, gangs, welfare dependency, bad social skills, anger mgmt issues, etc.

20 years ago or so, this problem was primarily limited to the inner cities of Minneapolis and St Paul and maybe some of the first ring suburbs. But it has expanded out to the 2nd ring suburbs too.

Call me racist, call me xenophobic - call me whatever you want. But it IS a problem and will only continue to get worse.

“Don’t come to Indy, please!”

Don’t worry, contrary to those from California, New York, New Jersey etc contaminating the southern east coast, emigres from illannoy are much more conservative...at least my un-scientific observation.
