I am on a googlephone usi ng TOR, a VPN, DDG, and having turned off all Google features I can find.

When I go to a Google service, they think I am somewhere in Eastern Europe, and give me strange languages as their default. So I think I have reasonably lost my Google tail.

I’ve tried DDG a few times through the years and have been constantly disappointed. The searches are never as productive as other search engines. The last time I tried DDG, I was trying to get updates on the Jayme Close kidnapping. Being a national story, there were updates daily if not hourly. DDG only brought up week old info. That was their last chance and I swore off it. Besides, I don’t believe their no tracking promise.

It’s my search engine. Google is a rat propaganda tool.

I am a huge fan of DuckDuckGo! Been using it exclusively for quite some time and am very happy with it.

Ditto.

Add Ghostery to stop all the trackers and Ad Block Plus to stop all the ads. Peaceful surfing.

I prefer to use Yippy.com for many of my searches.

This Tim Anderson character probably works for Google.

I also use Dogpile, which gets pretty effective results.

I am using NORDVPN, which is the editors choice of (I think) PC Mag or CNet. It is good, but slows down internet connectivity. Reliable, lots of choices of location, websites can’t figure ou who I am, etc. But slower.

Be advised that by the time I used TOR + VPN, about 30% of websites just refuse to allow me to use them. It is not a technical glitch. They have a policy of refusing content and services to people they cannot track. When that happens, I use their nearest competitor who allows anonymity.

Is there a good AND search engine?

If I enter a search term like a “lovely little old rectangular green French silver whittling knife” in google, an OR search engine, I get results that include the word “lovely”, OR the word “little”, OR the word “old”, OR or the word “...

Each search term I add to narrow down the results expands the number of results. The way my mind works, that’s bass ackwards!

If you are interested in security, a video by the name of “How to protect your online privacy in 2019” is a good place to start. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLessJ4R6w8 It has some good ideas.

Any trace you leave on the Internet can come back to haunt you. The people who are being called tin-foil hatters today 20 years from know will be noted for having been prescient.

Indeed.

And if for some reason you absolutely must use Google, do not be logged on to your Google account (if you have one).
