There is a water based kefir you might look into.

Do non smokers or people, who don’t live around smokers get lung cancer?

There isn’t enough potential profit in most natural anti-cancer strategies to support undertaking multi-million dollar clinical trials, and that’s what most MD’s base their recommendations on (due to liability considerations and mindset). And a busy MD has a difficult time keeping up with clinically approved developments, much less alternatives.

If the ingredients list vinegar, it is not a natural ferment. In the 1920s vinegar pickling replaced real pickles in mass food production. Instead of a six week fermentation to make a good dill pickle, boiling a cucumber in acidic acid, white vinegar, for 30 minutes “pickled” it by duplicating the lactic acid ferment effect on the cucumber.

It tastes and feels almost identical but it is much less labor intensive. The concentrated acid bath however kills off all beneficial bacteria. A fermented pickle creates beneficial bacteria and enzymes as the natural bacteria that processes the ferment are the same beneficial bacteria you need to properly digest and absorb nutrients in your digestive system.

Also interesting is that the bacteria that ferment foods are very selective on what bacteria are allowed to inhabit the foods. They actively fight harmful molds and bacteria that cause the foods to rot. It is the key to why naturally fermented foods keep over a year without refrigeration.

That same selective bacteria is the same mechanism that acts as an immune response in your digestive tract.

All tossed out in the short cut mass production acid bath canning method of modern sour krauts and pickles.

In the pre canning and refrigerator days for thousands of years pickling by fermentation is how mankind survived winter and spring till next years crops came in.

We have forgotten all that to our peril.

And this study shows your real doctor with an MD is clueless doesn’t it. Hint, he’s a pharmacologist not a doctor. You cant chemically make a probiotic, or patient one, so he can’t proscribe it.

Every Walmart and Target store I’ve been in has had whole milk yogurt, as do most grocery stores. It’s easy to overlook because the vast majority of yogurt they carry is either sweetened or low fat, but it’s there. I usually get Dannon brand.

So...a free pack of cigarettes with a cup of yogurt sold?

I go to Kroger mostly, but I checked (with no luck) Meijer too. I’ve yet to check Walmart, Whole Foods and Fresh Thyme. Dannon’s available (probably Stonybrook too), but I didn’t see any whole milk varieties. On the other hand, if they were plain or vanilla yogurt I wouldn’t have checked any further.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc

People who eat yogurt daily for probiotic considerations probably have other eating and behavioral habits as part of that overall mindset - which are also part of a healthy lifestyle.

My favorite yogurt by far is Siggi’s Triple Cream, Vanilla Flavor. I add some slivered almonds on top for additional protein and a little fiber.

Siggi’s is low sugar and the 9% milkfat satisfies my hunger. I usually also have some granola/muesli with blueberries and some milk, and feel energized all morning.

Most of the whole milk yogurt will be plain. It is used for recipes and people who just want yogurt. My wife insists it's tasty.

I only eat plain yogurt-—I sprinkle it with GrapeNuts to give it some crunch.

Okay, I’ll check it out. I blend it with frozen banana, another frozen fruit and fruit juice anyway. Sometimes I throw in a heaping spoon of peanut butter. That should still provide plenty of flavor. Thanks.

Much lower potency by the way, there is more acidophilus in a cup of yogurt than a whole bottle of pills.

As to broad spectrum there are 32 identified pro biotics in milk kiefir. Probably many more in any natural ferment that have not been identified.

And... you can make it yourself for pennies. How much do your bottled pills cost?

Just eat healthy food. Real food.

Try those olive bars at high end grocery stores, they are natural ferments, that’s why they are not refrigerated. And, they taste better!

I guess we will find out with me and the rest of my family who have never smoked. I do have a family member subjected to second hand smoke as a child who has damaged lungs from something that are operating at about 70% capacity or something like that...this member was also exposed to enviromental factors as cancer victim but not nearly as much or for as long as part of it was job related.

It took 35 years for the cancer to be diagnosed and 4 months to die.

Jerusalem artichoke is a very inulin rich food. Inulin a sugar that is not digested by humans but is a very rich food for your gut bacteria.

But inulin does cause gas if you overindulge, why the nickname “fartichoke “.

I was looking at trying those for some other health reason.

But clerks look at me like I am having a senior moment when I asked if they carry it.
