“Coast Guard honoring Edmund Fitzgerald sinking 44 years ago”

Ive probably been to various places around Lake Superior at least two dozen times in my life.
I cant ever remember a time when I looked out across the lake and didnt get an eerie sense of foreboding.

The Lake Superior Marine Museum & Maritime Visitor Center in Duluth is worth visiting if youre up that way. The Edmund Fitzgerald isnt just a song up there.

This sinking is probably the most legendary after the Titanic itself. I’m surprised a motion picture wasn’t made of it yet.

WARNING: Don't play that song, or you'll get an "earworm", and be humming/singing it for the next 2 days!

Here is the article, "The Cruelest Month", Gordon Lightfoot read and used as his source material for his song.

Dern near slipped past me this year, but listening now...
It’s said that Gordon Lightfoot spoke the families of each of the 29 men who died to ask their permission to write a song about the disaster.
That’s class.

I think that I have to disagree with the Coast Guard here. Those 79 guys were just trying to make a living- why are they honoring their death?
