I have options, but not enough knowledge.
A swap shop in town has a tower (I use PC) for $90 that I can just plug and play, or I can wipe this one and install it from download or CD or something.
I just got off the phone with a friend that has an old computer in their attic I can have and I could do the wipe and install on IT and this one so my wife could have HER own puter.
Those are the facts and I don't know what to do.
I don't know what to use to wipe a computer clean (I have no problem with saving and/or re-loading the hard way because I'm retired and all I do is sit here anyway.
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
My favorite cost is ..... free ........ as in FreeRepublic
pingski
If you have Windows 7 now and have a 64 bit computer, just download MediaCreationTool1809.EXE from Microsoft website and run it. Easy. I charge $65 to do this remotely but you can do it yourself for free.
If you have a 32 bit computer you can download:
Windows10Upgrade9252.exe from Microsoft.
That old computer better have a HUGE hard drive, and loads of memory.............................
Ping.
You may not want to do so. How much memory and how powerful a processor do you have? You may be much better off just buying a new system.
Also, you can still get Windows 10 free, do a search though !icrosofts websitr (unless they closed that up very recently).
Be sure and let folks know that 18.3 is what they need to download, not 19.X.
Keep W7
After January, make sure you have a decent malware product on it. Microsoft updates and support are overrated when the OS is many years old. It’s basically already tuned and well patched. I ran XP for 4 years after end-of-support with no problems.
In order to update an existing Windows 7 machine to W10, you need to have a version of Windows 7 installed that is registered to you. I don't believe you can do the free upgrade with a "wiped" machine unless you first install W7 on it.
Just use your win 7 key when you install win 10 but make sure you download the same flavor Pro or Home
Use WD40.
Businesses, including engineering companies, are still using Windows 7.
Skid on the breaks HARD.
If your old box does what you need it to, and is still running, you’re probably better off to stay with that until you get a better processor. Something more recent than someone’s old attic computer.
Remember, old computer’s don’t have the current hardware and firmware, the tech has changed. They don’t run the new stuff well or even at all.
You’ve been warned.
Pay for it and download from Microsoft.
BuY the “upgrade”.
Without specific industry and product knowledge, any other course will result in disaster.
I posted a month ago because I had lost my sound card (red X, not found) and it drove me crazy.
I started looking around for wtf and decided it was a freebie anyway (Malwarebytes) and No problems at all
Apparently conflict with my Comcast, free Norton's (or something)
I knew going in there MIGHT be conflicts and sure enough ... there was
