SAN ANTONIO – Bryce Young pauses a bit when the question comes. The five-star QB and No. 3 overall prospect in the Top247 is already a polished interview. Unfailingly courteous – he shook the hands of everyone in the room – and quick-witted, Young answers typical questions with ease. Yet a simple inquiry, at least on the surface, pauses his natural question-and-answer flow.
How would you define your standard?
“Off the field I try my best to push myself to be perfect,” Young told 247Sports. “On the football field, for me, it’s kind of about letting go. I’ve played a lot with faith. I’m trying to trust what I’ve done, god and my decisions. I try to play as free and relaxed without holding onto anything.”
That’s the mentality of Alabama’s next great quarterback.
The program's previously exceptional QB, Tua Tagovailoa, announced he’d enter the 2020 NFL Draft on Monday morning. At most places that would mean a severe drop-off in play the following season. Tagovailoa is a historically great passer – the most efficient in FBS history – and will be sorely missed in Tuscaloosa, especially with an early-season slate that includes USC and Georgia.
Young isn’t Tagovailoa. They have different fames and a different gear in terms of passing velocity. Yet it’s hard to consider their high-end potential and mirroring personalities without thinking Alabama will be just fine at quarterback in the future.
The production Young had in high school is nearly unrivaled.
He started for three years at California powerhouse Mater Dei High School, completing 70.5 percent of his passes for 11,805 yards and 138 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. He sliced apart some of the best competition in the country.

I remember similar being said about Tua. In fact, Trent Dilfer predicted that Tua would not lose a single game in college football before even played one college game.
Does it matter?
Maybe he will end up at Washington State. Worked out really well for Minshew, who started in the NFL in his rookie season.
Minshew had committed to Alabama for his 5th year as a graduate until Mike Leach asked him if he wanted to be a backup at Alabama or lead he nation in passing.
The publisher won't capitalize the word "God" but I'd bet if they referred to the city of Qom they'd refer to it as "The Holy City of Qom".
