L.A. City Council votes to ask MLB to award 2017, 2018 World Series titles to Dodgers

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to ask the commissioner of baseball to award the Dodgers the 2017 and 2018 World Series titles after Major League Baseball punished the Houston Astros for cheating and continues to investigate the Boston Red Sox for possible misconduct.

The resolution, co-sponsored by Councilmen Gil Cedillo and Paul Koretz, originated after Commissioner Rob Manfred released a nine-page report on Jan. 13 detailing how the Astros used technology in violation of baseball rules to steal opposing teams’ pitching signs during the 2017 season.

Both councilmen said the resolution is symbolic and represents a larger ideological fight. With President Trump impeached and wealthy families facing charges in the college admissions scandal, Koretz said he hopes the resolution sets an example that cheating shouldn’t be tolerated.

“This isn’t being done for publicity,” Koretz said. “This is being done in outrage for how our team was cheated.”

They don’t care about that. This is all about LA political hacks pandering to Dodger fans.

The old line comes to mind...

In sports: If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying hard enough

No. They may have cheated but you lost fair and square.

In the four ALCS home games Houston won in 2017, the Yankees scored a total of three runs! Sorry, you can’t be that pathetic on offense and blame your losing on sign-stealing.

The Dodgers claim they could have won if the Astros didn’t steal the signs of Yu Darvish and Clayton Kershaw. NEWSFLASH! The Astros said publicly right after the Series that Darvish was tipping his pitches and Darvish, when shown the videos agreed he was tipping his pitches. No technology needed.

Kershaw’s impotency in the postseason (not just against Houston and Boston) is reaching legendary proportions. So did the Nationals cheat too because they lit up Kershaw in the playoff last year? Justin Verlander is 0-6 in World Series play. Sometimes, in a short sample, it just happens.

Oh, and Sports Illustrated reported a story that as many as eight other big league teams were also using electronic means to steal signs. That’s 1/3rd of the league under a cloud of suspicion but, just like with steroids, MLB is making examples out of a few and letting the rest slide.

We had a discussion like this in Texas more than 160 years ago.
The Texans’ response was: “Come and take it!”

Typical L.A. idiocy and entitlement. It’d be ridiculous to ask for the National League pennant, and I wouldn’t support that, but at least it would make some logical sense. But as others have indicated, on what basis do they think they should declared the winner against the American League team, too? Asinine.

From LA sportsman

The Dodgers didn’t lose the World Series because the Astros were cheating, the Dodgers’ loss was due to their own faults.

The Dodgers should have won game two when they had a 3-1 lead and a runner on third with one out in the bottom of the 7th. Instead, the runner was stranded and the Astros came back to tie and then win the game in extra innings.

The Dodgers also lost game seven at home with Darvish on the mound, those are two games the Astros system could not help them and yet they won.

The Dodgers pitching was much better at home than on the road during the World Series. However, Dodger Stadium is considered more of a pitchers park than Minute Maid Park.

The Dodgers two big starters were ineffective in the Astros park, but if there was a system in place, why couldn’t the Astros solve Alex Wood in Game four and his 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball

All evidence points to a system that Astros used to steal signs and pitching tendencies that went beyond what is acceptable by baseball’s standards. That being said, no, the Dodgers were not robbed, when they needed to step up the Dodgers didn’t and that’s why they lost the World Series

“.....during the 2017 season.”

What are they going to say about 2000 through 2016? Or maybe 1900 till 2000. Stealing signs has been around since they figured out to have two teams compete. All sports have indicators in all types of their process. I’ll absolutely guarantee you every team in both leagues tries to get the signs and flash to the batters in one way or another. For years when the team in the field determines they are trying to steal signs or are peeking back from the batter’s box, someone gets dusted. But it is normal for then to try it.

So for a team to declare victory when they do it themselves, is just damn disingenuous. But I guess consistent with what sport has turned into......finger pointing and childish accusations.

I demand that MLB awards one of those World Series titles to the Seattle Mariners. Because fairness. Why should good teams always get the award?

The legitimate outrage of technology aided cheating is being overshadowed by this ridiculous political ploy by the City Counsel. In fact what’s even more ridiculous is that none of the players involved have yet to be punished let alone identified “for fear of angering the player’s union”. Hogwash. The players union would oppose punishing players who cheated? Not a tenable position to take.

Not at all.

The Yankees lost the first two games in Houston by identical scores of 2-1.

If the Astros were cheating, stealing signs in those two games, then yes, sure it matters.

This is MLB version of the 2016 Election...it's over. If you win this year...then you are the best in 2020, me, I'm not sure of what the Red Sox will do in 2020...

Oh by the way, should we declare Chase Elliott the NASCAR champ instead of Krybaby Busch, LA City Council?

I'll demand that in 2020 the Stanley Cup winner will be the Hartford Whalers! (Cue Brass Bonanza!) 😋

They were just really terrible at cheating, I guess. Seriously? Two runs over 9 innings is a sign of cheating?

Has the LA City Council pronounced Hillary Clinton President of the USA from the ‘rigged’ 2016 election?
