Seems pretty excessive. Whatever happened to “there is no “I” in “team”?

Place your bets. How long does the NBA resist until it caves. I’ll go first. Just before the first game of the next season.

Jerry West was Kobe’s “second father” for all intents and purposes, he loved Kobe like a son.

I doubt that most of these people would have the half the remorse if their own Mother passed away.

Lest we forget there were others on that flight not named Bryant:
“The two were remembered by Todd Schmidt, the principal at Payton’s former elementary school, as an “amazing family ... engaged, supportive, encouraging, and full of mischief and laughter.”
“While the world mourns the loss of a dynamic athlete and humanitarian, I mourn the loss of two people just as important,” Schmidt wrote. “Their impact was just as meaningful, their loss will be just as keenly felt, and our hearts are just as broken.”

I’m not feelin’ the Kobe love. I haven’t watched the NBA for years, but I just don’t see why people are that blown away by Kobe’s death. It’s not like he was struck down by a horrible illness in the prime of his career like Lou Gehrig or killed while flying relief supplies to an earthquake-stricken country like Clemente. Kobe’s death was a tragic accident. I was shocked to hear it, but it’s not like it was comparable to JFK’s assassination.

Jerry West was used as the model for the NBA logo and it was never intended to be a tribute to a specific player. The representation was meant to be any 'typical' player.

Changing the logo to pay tribute to one specific player is wrong.

Add a Kobe #24 patch to the uniforms for the remainder of the season and be done with it.

What's next, changing the MLB logo to Roberto Clemente?

You can’t tell the race of the player from the current logo, if you didn’t know it was modeled after Jerry West. Unless you put a big-ass fro on the player, then I suppose that would be a giveaway.

I wonder if the NBA would consider a likeness of Bill Laimbeer for the NBA? Just asking for a friend.

A question. What if it was Larry Bird, instead?

I’m familiar with lots of players but honestly haven’t seen one minute of basketball in at least the last 15 years.

Got no dog in the hunt but this all seems like an over-reaction. He was one guy, a guy who played a kids game.

Teams he never played for retiring his jersey? Changing the entire league logo?

Wow, so what happens if a championship team plane crashes sometime. The game is over because there won’t be any numbers left.

There’s been talk the last few years of changing the logo. Even Jerry West, who is the logo, has been saying it’s due.

Yep. When MLB Commissioner Bart Giamatti died suddenly in 1989,they wanted to change the name baseball to "Bartball."
