Former Rep. Chaffetz: I don't understand how Schiff still has a security clearance
Washington Examiner ^ | 2/04/20 | Andrew Mark Miller

Former Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz questioned why House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff is allowed a security clearance when he “continues to lie.”

“I still, to this day, do not understand why Adam Schiff has a security clearance. He continues to lie. He continues to put out information that he knows is not true. He has stood in front of the United States Senate and talked about things that are not in the impeachment,” Chaffetz told Fox & Friends.

Chaffetz also responded to the news from the night before that Adam Schiff had warned that President Trump could sell Alaska to Russia if he isn’t impeached.

"If abuse of power is not impeachable ... Trump could offer Alaska to the Russians in exchange for support in the next election or decide to move to Mar-a-Lago permanently and let Jared Kushner run the country, delegating to him the decision whether to go to war," Schiff said on the Senate floor.

“Give away Alaska. And how do they, Democrats, with a straight face say we can’t have Donald Trump in the presidency because, well, we are worried about the integrity of the election?” Chaffetz shot back. “Time to maybe go look in the mirror here a little bit, folks.”

Ive asked that question of Trump has the power to strip both Schiff and Nadler of their security clearences until they pass a mental compentcy test to prove they can be trusted. If I wanted to get a security clearence, my live would be scrutinized 6 ways to Sunday with every person I know questioned. Schiff is not sane and should be treated as so!

Neither does anyone else. The POS is a danger to himself and to the country.

In a just world, it would be revoked. People with clearances are entrusted to follow rules and regulations, and this guy breaks those with impunity.

Put simply, Schiff has a security clearance because Nancy Pelosi gave him one. The whole concept of classified information is not much more than an executive order and a pile of derivative regulations and gentleman’s agreements within government. Members of the Legislative branch have access to classified information not because they pass background checks (though they probably do go through checks as a courtesy), but because they have a constitutional responsibility and duty to oversee executive branch functions. As chairman of the house intelligence committee, as appointed by the Speaker, he has a right to access to classified information.

If more stringent requirements for access to classified information would be attempted to be codified into law, the legislative branch executive would codify it in a way with carve outs that would preserve their perogative to grant and rescind access as they deemed appropriate, and the executive branch would resist under a separation of powers argument.

It only gets worse when the media gets involved, because the media claims a primacy of the first ammendment over classified information, but only in a way that applies to members of the media as the media defines themselves.

Were I an advisor to the Trump administration, after this impeachment sham was over, I would direct the intelligence chiefs to withhold access to all classified information from that committee until all committee members who either themselves, or members of their staffs, leaked or lied about classified information unless compelled under federal court order. Wouldn’t likely happen, but it would be appropriate.

Shes a mental loon though as well. Like JackD.Ripper in Dr. Strangelove calling the shots. Piss on them all. I think Trumps oath superceeds their right to a security clearance.

Thanks to Bill Clinton, the President does have the power to decide if someone gets a clearance. He overhauled the system for obvious reasons.

Sure paid off for Obama.

There are dems all over twitter who want schiffhead to be president.

The problem with stripping his clearance would be the optics. It would be reported as a vindictive play.
