Canuckistan is what happens when you wholly rely on your geographical proximity to the greatest nation on the planet for your military protection and industrial output so you can throw your every dollar into free schitt for da pipple.

And this has been the MO for the Canucks in Canuckistan since, like, forever.

Hmmm... I guess my military service as a radar technician at a Northern Ontario radar station in the late 60s-early 70s,
maintaining the equipment and watching for missiles coming over the pole aimed at the US, counts for nothing?

I understand that there are problems and improvements that can be made, but best to beware of painting with too wide a brush.

The DEW Line was paid for with American dollars. The Avro Arrow was the last hurrah for the Canadian defense industry and they couldn’t pull it off. Canucks now extol the wonders of their sniper teams, as if that constitutes a serious contribution to the defense of a nation larger than the United States. I’ve been waiting for the Canucks in Canuckistan to do the right thing politically since, like, forever. But they always choose to be more like Meheeco than the good ol’ US of A. Why is that?

Sadly, Harper - demonized as a “far right” conservative - in reality falls in the same ideological spectrum as Susan Collins. True conservatism does not exist in any organized form in Canada. The parties are all varying shades of socialism, and the Conservative Party is conservative in name only. Yes, it’s a better alternative than the 3 leftist parties, but when it’s in power it merely slows down the pace of government interference and social engineering.

I really posted this to highlight the mature leadership of Harper, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this...

Every Province I’ve been too has a Highway of Heros,
where people congregate on the overpasses to pay respect to the fallen as vehicles carrying them to their final resting place.

My Dad is buried in a veterans section of a cemetery. He served during WW2 in North Africa.

Let us also not forget that a certain nation pretty much insisted on its being the planetary police, and and made it so that the now dependent neighbour was unable to continue its independent military research and development projects.

That same neighbour also lured away many of the brightest engineers and scientists that were laid off due to those predatory policies.

But no, let’s just cast aspersions on the biggest trade partner you have.

I joined and worked for the PPC, the People’s Party of Canada before the last election.
Have you checked out their platform?

Perhaps I am not really an ‘ordinary’ Canadian since I spent a large portion of my youth
growing up in the US 1959-1967 age 8 to 16, (North Carolina, Connecticut and Massachusetts)
and still have a strong sense of attachment to the US.

It’s great that you’re one of the few Canadians remaining that isn’t a gibsmedat ne’er do well with a hand out for American freebies. I respect Canadians that deserve respect, like the veterans of World War 1 (Ypres, Passchendaele, Cambrai), World War 2 (Dieppe, Normandy), and those who fought in our current dustups. I have visited many forts in Canada, particularly Fort Erie, and have a lot of respect for the Canadians of old who had the gumption to push back against the USA at times. What the hell happened to those Canadians?

Canucks today just whine and moan about the mean old USA and try to be like the worst of the European “social democrats” (i.e. communists) who want the USA to continue to shoulder the burdens of the world while they all just kick back and sponge off the American taxpayer to fund their welfare states. I recognize that the people of this country lost their minds when they elected and re-elected Hussein, but how is it that the Canucks didn’t learn from this and kick Justine out on his ass? Canucks are now like a nation of Bernie Bros and the shiftless ilk that populate our own Marxocrat Party.

This is tough talk, but the truth hurts.

Very true but you have to understand the population at large has moved from liberal to alt right the last 10 years. This is a people that have no problem with Huawei penetrating our country and think its just fine exploiting the Cuban people by going on vacations there.

You are right. The current CPC is left of center. Liberals and NDP are not alt left parties.

As far as our military, it consists of very brave men and women doing their best with what little they are given. Sadly no government in the last 30 years has done the military justice by actually funding it. Funding levels should be double what they are now.

I agree. Just for the sake of our own national identity it would serve Canada to not live off the back of the USA. Some times our foreign policy may depart form the USA, but how can we seriously depart if we rely on the USA for rides out to the battle field.
