Statement on Coronavirus & College Athlete Health
National College Players Association ^ | February 29, 2020 | NCPA Staff

National College Players Association's Statement on Coronavirus and College Athlete Health:

"In the wake of the emerging coronavirus pandemic, the NCAA and its colleges should take precautions to protect college athletes. They should also make public which actions will be taken and when. Precautions should include cancelling all auxiliary events that put players in contact with crowds such as meet and greets and press events. Athletic programs should also take every possible measure to sanitize buses and airplanes used to transport players.

In regard to the NCAA's March Madness Tournament and other athletic events, there should be a serious discussion about holding competitions without an audience present.

Google just cancelled a summit in California and Amazon is encouraging its employees to avoid all nonessential travel because of coronavirus concerns. The NCAA and its colleges must act now, there is no time to waste."

Overreaction? Prudent precaution? Then again I have never heard of the National College Players Association.

Teams should just bow to each other, rather than shaking hands.

The custom of shaking hands is going to end before this is over.

I can’t see the NCAA tournaments (men’s or women’s) being held
without an audience.

Meet and greets cancelled? Yes.

Scrubbing down buses and airplanes? Yes.

A lot of people think they will cancel March Madness all together. I can’t see it. It’s big money.

Those teams are traveling all around already.

I have been wondering how long before athletes catches this.

Tennis is especially vulnerable. A lot of Asians on the tennis circuit that do very well.

Over the last 48 to 72 hours, 21 more nations have reported their first case.

I found it odd that all these little bergs found their first case within this
short window after a month of this virus circling the planet.

These new nations represent around 25-33% of the total of all nations now
reporting.

They’re little bergs of a nation too. Strange.

Last 48 hours:

Azerbaijan
Belarus
Denmark
Estonia
Iceland
Lithuania
Mexico
Monaco
Netherlands
New Zealand
Nigeria
North Ireland
Qatar
San Martine

Here are the ones if you extend it out to 72 hours.

Brazil
Georgia
Greece
North Macedonia
Norway
Pakistan
Romania

That’s 21 out of the 61 nations reporting...

...all finding their first case in the last 48 to 72 hours.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

And don’t bump into each other and keep their sweat to themselves and by all means don’t touch the ball.

It might just mean that they finally got enough testing kits to find those cases. If one company is making the majority of the kits, it could have taken until now to get their production ramped up.

That’s just speculation on my part, though.

New Zealand-a favorite “bugout” location for the rich. Wonder if Bezos is there? His plane flew in, but the airline/airport would neither confirm nor deny his presence.
