Two more cases of coronavirus in Maryland, officials say

Gov. Larry Hogan announced Sunday that state officials have identified two additional positive cases of the novel coronavirus in the state of Maryland. The state now has five total confirmed cases, and 62 negative tests for COVID-19.

The two new positive cases are a woman, a Harford County resident in her 80s who contracted the virus while traveling overseas and is currently hospitalized and a man, a Montgomery County resident in his 60s who contracted the virus while traveling overseas and was briefly hospitalized.

I would like to express an opinion that the CDC blew it again by watching the air ports of entry, and cargo sea ports of entry, but forgot about tourist sea ports of entry

And I would like to predict that VP Pence will ensure that all cruise ship crews are tested and retested prior to allowing any passengers on board new cruises, seeing how 19 crew members of the GP tested positive (not sure how many for the DP but a lot)

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

Well. I hate to disagree but broad mitigation is still appropriate in many areas. Containment is no longer possible.
We do have to move on to mitigation and have, more will be coming.

Yes, but a concise list that can be easily replicated would help some, particularly the people that haven’t been taking this seriously. If some essentials are not easily found, perhaps discussion of alternatives would be useful. I have already prepped for my family to isolate for several months; this is not for my benefit.

Yes, but some people may prefer to start homeschooling since that is what is likely to happen at least temporarily for some. In my state, all I have to do is notify the school district Superintendent and maintain core requirements. Some other places might be much more complicated.

Exactly. We’re working on a way to stream services so that my mostly old-people congregation is not at risk. I’m wondering if other people are already working on similar solutions and what obstacles they’ve encountered. You know very well that some people will insist that they are protected by their faith and we’ve seen how well that works for the rest of us.
