If we were stop buying from China you would have massive inflation with shortages. This needed to be addressed 20 years ago. The horse is out of the barn now. We don’t have the workers or infrastructure.

“Researchers in China and Singapore have also developed serologic tests and have initiated these types of studies, according to the World Health Organization. The agency has called on all countries with cases to conduct this kind of epidemiological work.”

but,

“At a press briefing in Geneva Wednesday, Van Kerkhove called for the public sharing of the results from serologic studies and said the WHO hopes to have some data in the coming weeks from China.

“It will take some time,” she said. “We do need to give them the time to run these sero-epi investigations.””

I think the young people will do that by accident. They are not going to stay in if they believe the virus doesn’t really affect them. I was young once I would have felt the same way. So I expect them to start running the streets again pretty soon. I agree with your idea of self quarantine for those at risk. My wife is going nowhere and I’m being judicious in where I go.

even though most Americans weren’t aware

That is just not true. This has been the biggest story, though bigger stories are out there, since the Diamond Princess had infections onboard and was reported on daily.

You seem to believe, or at least give the impression, that the president can flip a switch and the resources are available.

Well that is a misconception. The CDC response was the real problem here.

They were very slow to get test kits manufactured, that may be because the CDC relied on China to produce the test kits, I don't know what the reason was. I do know that the CDC had strayed way off the mandate that they were created for, that being a rapid response agency to deal with viral outbreaks. They have been testing what affects alcohol has on monkeys, gee they get drunk, who would have guessed. They have studied why Lesbians are overweight, could it be they are lesbians because they are fat and thus less attractive to a vast majority of males? My point is these were things the CDC should have never participated in to begin with.

President Trump immediately stopped all incoming from China, and the Democrats and media railed against him calling him xenophobic and racist, but he did it anyway. On top of that they try to hamper his ability to deal with any thing head on, because they want to micromanage this president on everything.

The president is not a dictator, nor does he act like one, although the press and Democrats equate him constantly to vicious dictators current & past.

The panic that has ensued has been 100 times more disastrous than this virus has been. To date 3,083 cases in the U.S. have been confirmed, 60 deaths (1.9% - average age 80), 56 recoveries (1.8%), with 2,967 still infected (96.7%). These numbers ballooned when test kits became more available. I contend that the death, recovered and still infected rates are inaccurate because the number of unreported cases is unknown, so they cannot be figured into the equations to provide a more accurate picture. By that I mean those who contracted the virus, figured it was the flu, or maybe even a cold, and never sought medical assistance.

Had the president declared a national emergency when confirmed cases were in the couple hundreds, and deaths in the lowers 10s, everyone would have howled that he was overreacting and fearmongering, even while the press and Democrats were actively fearmongering.

We are in no way very late as a nation as you proclaim. In 2009 President Obama didn't declare a national emergency until there were over 1,000 deaths and 100s of thousands infected by the H1N1 swine flu. I can't remember exactly how long had passed since infections started appearing, but I think that declaration came at least 9 months into it, and perhaps even a full year after. But it wasn't as immediate as this declaration was established.

Well according to you, you have the right to strip them of their liberties at your judgment. I am uncomfortable with that.

Yeah, let’s deal with this head on. The faster we can deal with it the quicker sanity and calm returns.

Not testing, but screening with a temperature check, and if > 100.4 you are denied entry

Somebody posted at least similar info on another thread.

So I was easily able to Startpage something up.

It was good to read something like the same article previously seen and get to reread the info for better comprehension and memory of details.

Wipe your door knobs with disinfectant. I am wiping mine.

What do you recommend we do with this guy if he gets corona?

We wouldn’t want to impinge on his rights now would we?

I do not believe in stripping someone else of rights without due process. I think that I am bale to take care of my family and practice prevention. I am also seeing a divergence between the panic and what I am seeing clinically.

Additionally, I am not thinking that there is a neurological component to this disease which will disinhibit rational behavior and cause otherwise normal people to suddenly start licking my door knob to use your absurd example. Reduction a absurdum works well in rhetorical discussions, and you are there with this. However, I can practice adequate prevention and disinfection WITHOUT trampling on everyone else’s civil rights because I am irrationally afraid.

Please let us all know how you are not being tyrannical in your approach. It is clear that you would deny someone of their liberty at your whim. Are you sure you are on the proper forum. DU would probably make you feel more at home.

Hi redangus, you give sage advice that many people don't want to hear.

I'm over in Germany and within our extensive American community the majority are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

I'm 66 and observing the normal flu precautions. But you are right us older folks need to be extra cautious which we wait and see what happens in the next two to four weeks. Take Care!

Ok so giving you an example of a person who should be in forced quarantine is reduction a absurdum?

I think you need to take your nose out of the Latin text books and get a damned clue.

You sound overeducated to the point of stupidity.

Question stands. What do you do with this guy?

You are truly an idiot. You have no idea of what you are talking about. In this video you have pointed out one person to justify your position. The backside of reduced to the absurd is that once at that point, we must not act in the way proposed. You have resorted to posting one person who licked a doorbell for three hours. You really believe that there this is a highly prevalent behavior?

Further, If I disinfect my doorbell and doorknob, I have protected myself without violating anyone else’s rights. The real questions — what would you do?

Oh I am sure I know, you would force this guy to be locked up because you are a statist. And you know better. Your judgment that this person should be locked up is the end of the story. Thank you for finding the most ridiculous argument you could find to make your point.

In case you choose to avoid the questions please respond to the following:
1. Do you believe that this behavior in your video you have shared is prevalent?
2. What is your solution to what this person has done?
3. Can you protect yourself without deciding who should be locked up?
4. Are you more independent if you protect yourself or if you toss this guy in quarantine — which by the way — you are advocating against his will which means he is incarcerated.

Oh and “reductio ad absurdum” is an effective tool in making people think.

I gave you a concrete example of someone who would need to be in forced quarantine were they infected and not self quarantining.

The absurd would be for him to be free if infected and not self quarantining. You lost the argument.
