Questioning the Shutdown
First Things ^ | R. R. Reno

Posted on 03/21/2020 7:51:52 AM PDT by Fester Chugabrew

The extraordinary shutdown, if continued, will have harmful consequences that go far beyond the economy. A short period of decisive action to buy time to prepare may be prudent. But ongoing measures of mass mobilization are likely to do severe damage to our society.

The Wall Street Journal editorial “Rethinking the Coronavirus Shutdown” warns of the economic consequences of a prolonged lockdown. We could be heading toward a drastic decline in GDP. This will dislocate the lives of tens of millions and exact human costs, not just economic ones. Already, federal officials are gearing up to spend one trillion dollars. Central banks have committed nearly two trillion dollars to stabilize markets. These extraordinary measures indicate how perilous the situation has become.

The wannabe tyrants don’t care why you turn over everything to them, only that they get power.

Right now the US death rate of those confirmed with Wuhan virus is 1.3%

United States
Coronavirus Cases:
19,871
Deaths:
277
from--> https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/,

Is this worth destroying all that we have built up?

If churches are darkened in the face of sickness and death, only TV talking heads, media pundits, and public health officials will speak to our anxieties and fears. This reinforces the secular proposition: Life in this world is the only thing that matters.

Well stated.

Give it one week.
By then a whole lot more results will be in from the use of the quinine drugs, et al, and then they will lift most restrictions.

This hysteria and panic attack will have to stop.

Already started in Pee-Ay among small business owners. The phone lines were burning up Friday morning with suppliers and customers where I work. This is unscientifice, the the opinion seems to be that we are all “exempt” from Gov. Wolf’s ill-advised order.

That is correct. But then the hysterians have to be addressed.

One week.. They will have to lift most restrictions and put a stop to the panic.

Lenin always said we would sell them the rope to hang us. And the Kung Flu addicts will do just that if we allow them to destroy the economy.

Are you ready for the Flugaloo?

This is nothing more than a bailout of failed U.S. States such as California, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Even if they do succeed in grabbing a trillion dollars of others’ money, what are they going to do next time?

It’s time to quarantine the elderly and folks with poor health, and the rest of us to get back to work, maybe catching this thing and getting it over with.

I feel that this isolation is only going to prolong this. Once everyone gets the green light to go back out, it’ll start back up again. It’s still out there.

It is idiotic to destroy our world over a particularly virulent flu virus that kills generally only a tiny subset of the people in infects.

Hindsight is 20/20. Predict the future value of those numbers now. Weekly please. Then we’ll all congratulate you for your incredible analysis...

And if you can find any sports events to bet on, let us know that too so we can all be rich.

If this keeps up very much longer the government(s) will look like the Sith and the rest of us the Jedi.

All of these takings by these various governments from top to bottom are unconstitutional. Period. Government cannot do what it’s doing without compensation.

In Texas Gov. Abbott wrote up a cute little executive order. It’s meaningless. He has no right to do what he did and he has no vehicle for enforcement.

The shit is going to hit the fan. And soon.
