As of Saturday, Louisiana was reporting nearly 600 confirmed cases of COVID-19, one of the highest numbers in the country. Sixteen people had died. The majority of cases are in New Orleans, which now has one confirmed case for every 1,000 residents. New Orleans had held Mardi Gras celebrations just two weeks before its first patient, with more than a million revelers on its streets.

In my experience, this severity of ARDS is usually more typical of someone who has a near drowning experience they have a bunch of dirty water in their lungs or people who inhale caustic gas. Especially for it to have such an acute onset like that. Ive never seen a microorganism or an infectious process cause such acute damage to the lungs so rapidly. That was what really shocked me.

Not good.
So if an 80 year old Italian with a history of COPD or a weakened immune system wouldn't be surprising.Old person, weakened lungs or immune system treated in the worst health care system in the industrialized world.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Respiratory therapist? That’s not an MD nor an RN nor an LPN. It is a person with minimal training in how to administer respiratory treatments. I would not place too much credence in his/her “observations”.
Doesnt everyone know its bad?
Exactly right, it is someone trained how to operate the respirator machine.
Just the flu...
Hardly reliable.
I don’t know how true this story is, but as an RN who worked in a NICU for 42 years, Respiratory Therapists were an invaluable resource for ventilation. They were not minimally trained.
IF you catch it.
Yet another article with anecdotal, flamboyant rhetoric and no data. Here’s data. Germany 22k cases, 84 deaths.
Not Creepers who get thw idea that this event is being used against Trump and to destroy the economy, but out of that jump to the invalid conclusion that the virus is therefore no worse than the flu.
I’ve said it before, I believe it is much worse than we have been told.
“Doesnt everyone know its bad?”
No, the FluBros are out there hitting the beaches in Florida, with the governor SUPPORTING that stupidity, since he (I guess) is owned by business interests.
If you are called to immediately go the hospital emergency room because a loved one has been in an accident, and while standing outside the ER waiting for a doctor to come talk to you, you overhear the janitor telling someone they've never cleaned up so much blood before, would you disregard what you heard because, "Thats not an MD nor an ..."?
“Ive said it before, I believe it is much worse than we have been told.”
After seeing what China had to do, and Italy going to Marshall Law, and the rest of Western Europe about to do the same...yea, I’d say it’s a bit more than the flu - at least to people who are getting direct information.
And what’s the percentage of people that are infected have to be put on a ventilator?
If everyone who catches the virus is this bad, the death toll would be MUCH higher.
