If we're honest with ourselves, there are some things around the house we know we ought to do but we tell ourselves we never have the time.
While many of us are under stay-at-home orders, now is the time to handle projects to fight boredom that might have always been put off until "someday when I have the time".
Don't come out of this forced staycation wishing you had done some of these because you'll probably never have a better time to do them:
* re-organize the garage.
* give floors a thorough cleaning and (if applicable) waxing.
* re-organize the kitchen cabinets.
* organize/digitize your photo albums.
* go through old boxes of items you've stored and throw out what's now useless.
* gather the old toys your children no longer play with and prepare them for donation to a charity.
* spruce up your lawn.
* take off weight or get in shape.
This list is by no means exhaustive and doesn't apply to everyone but if you decide to do some project you've been putting off and attack it with zeal, you may feel a sense of accomplishment and there will be one thing scratched from your to-do list that you've constantly been putting off while killing time awaiting a return to normalcy.
Feel free to share your own ideas for stay-at-home projects. This thread is offered as a way to brainstorm your own do-at-home efforts.
Don’t forget GTA. :)
I have a driveway to grade and 32 acres that always need some brush clearing. I’m good.
* Reduce the inventory in your liquor cabinet.
None of those sound like fun, but then you get those things you’ve been putting off finished. 8>)
I have a spare room that looks like a bomb hit it. VERY depressing!!
“* Reduce the inventory in your liquor cabinet.”
That’s the winner. It’s what I am doing.
Build a scaled model of the Eiffel Tower.
After you’re done with the projects try enrolling in some online learning courses. Or just explore some topic in depth that you’re interested in. Its a fun and productive use of time.
You're right - that's why these don't get done. But if there was ever a time to do the things you'd rather not do, this would be it. And many times when you finally got it done, this won't have to be on your agenda again for years.
I’ve been thinking along similar lines - although I’m still working. With all the free weekends I have thanks to my local SCCA region either cancelling or postponing club racing events, I could get to work on building my next model railroad (I model in N scale, btw).
Bought a GP9 locomotive on eBay a couple weeks ago, and now I’m waiting for some Unitrack I bought off Amazon to arrive. In retrospect I should have ordered that from a US-based online retailer. The three different items I ordered all came from different Amazon sellers, and two of them are in Japan.
My wine cellar is taking a beating which makes it hard to stay at my weight. But Orange Theory has been putting out daily workouts via their APP so I’ve been keeping up. That, plus the dog is getting a major walking....
Autocross, rallycross, rally sprint, stage rally or hill climbs?
Trying to avoid going to stores if possible to buy greeting cards, I’ve been making them for emailing. I have three girlfriends with birthdays on Saturday. Here’s the verse (with apologies to Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs):
Come listen to my story bout a quarantine
So no one shares the cootie we are social distancing
Id love to go to Walmart for a birthday card for you
But have decided, after all, I do not want the flu.
China, that is. Xis Disease. WuFlu.
Happy Birthday!
“I have a spare room that looks like a bomb hit it. VERY depressing!!”
that kind of mess IS literally depressing ...
if you can bring yourself to tackle it, i do it by sorting into four piles:
1. Trash: goes in the trash can or to the dump
2. Recycle: cardboard, paper and metal that can go to the recycle center
3. Give Away: stuff that will have some value to someone; take to Goodwill or similar location
4. Keep: This is stuff that you WILL use during the NEXT year or has true sentimental value
good luck ... if you can fix that room, you’ll feel much better about yourself ...
2. Sit back down and let the cat curl up on my lap.
3. Pet the cat.
4. Return to 1.
“Its what I am doing.”
well, i just hope the liquor stores in the your area have been declared “essential services” so you can replenish depleted inventory ...
LOL ....very good
“Build a scaled model of the Eiffel Tower.”
out of toothpicks and Elmers glue ...
