A newly-hatched study out of China, so raw that it’s not yet been peer-reviewed, has some disturbing news for cat lovers.
Our furry feline friends appear to be susceptible to catching Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Even worse, the cats in the study were able to infect each other, although they showed no signs of illness.
Ferrets were also able to “catch” the virus, although it didn’t appear to harm them. Dogs, on the other hand, were not susceptible, according to the study. The virus showed up in the feces of five dogs, but no infectious virus was found. Pigs, chickens and ducks were also not very hospitable places for the virus.
But there’s no need for cat or ferret lovers to panic, experts say. There’s no evidence their pets could get very sick or die from the novel coroneavirus.
Yes, people should embrace their pets. These researchers squirted the virus down the cats nose in high concentration, which is pretty artificial, said Dr. John Williams, chief of the division of pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh.
So this is an artificial circumstance and we dont know that it happens in nature at all, Schaffner added.

Dogs not susceptible. How about the ones uncooked, barbarians.
Gee. “Civets”.

If you tried to squirt anything up Noodle’s nose you would not live to tell about it.
I’d rather take my chances with covid than face an angry cat. One of my sweet things bit clear through one of my heaviest welding gloves and then through the flap between my thumb and forefinger. She was scared of getting in a carrier to go to the vet.
That cat never has been to the vet in three years.
In the US, corona virus vaccines have been available for dogs for decades. Cheap and common.
"Post hoc, ergo propter hoc"-fallacy.
It may have been a pure coincidence. The kitten may have become sick and died for entirely different reasons completely unrelated to COVID-19.
Regards,
One of my son’s cats was infected with a coronavirus several years ago. It effected his heart. They think he got it at the vet’s. He was an indoor cat like his other two, and they were never infected with it.

The enteric kind, not the respiratory kind, which is basically kennel cough.
Still no vaccine for that but rarely does it ever do great harm to them, barring underlying or secondary infections/issues.

Hong Kong has already reported that two dogs have come down with it, and there’s another one in Europe IIRC. Study is BS.
OK then.
What about RATS?
New York City needs some help here.
I hope Pizza Rat survived. Oh, never mind, a rat’s lifespan is about 2-3 years.
Interesting you mentioned this because a tiger at Bronx Zoo tested positive for coronavirus.
