The Airbus A380 has all the prerequisites for cargo conversions on paper. However, the aircraft is too heavy and too costly to operate compared to other cargo aircraft conversions. This points to a single destiny for the type; ending up in an aircraft graveyard.
On paper, the A380 would make an excellent cargo aircraft.
Alas, there are some flaws in the A380 design when it comes to cargo.
The first is how heavy the A380 is. Because the A380 has a heavier empty weight than the competitive Boeing 747-8F cargo carrier, it actually costs more to get the aircraft in the air. In practice, this means that despite having more room onboard, the A380 would hit its maximum carrying weight before the entire volume was filled up, leaving plenty of extra empty room onboard. It would be too expensive for a cargo operator to run to make a profit.

I get dizzy, I get numbo When I'm dancing With my Jum-Jum-Jumbo.
She's a twosome, she's a foursome If she'd lose some, I would like her more some. Oh, I don't want her, you can have her, She's too fat for me.
A white elephant. Charter services can use them to fly moojs into Saudi for hadj.
I guess nobody thought that the plane had a limited application for bot cargo and passengers.
There just are not that many places with that many people who want to go from one to another all at the same time on the same airplane.
Didn’t anybody ever think about this before they built the monster?
“First I looks at the purse.”
Put giant electric motors on it and fill the extra space with batteries.

Airbus made a big bet that hub airports would run out of landing slots.
Boeing made the bet that airlines and their passengers would rather fly smaller aircraft point to point.
Big enough to load big cargo but no entry unless they go all 747 entry style.
Take off the wings and refurb them into upscale living.
“Take off the wings and refurb them into upscale living.”
Zoning laws would rule that out within a hundred miles from any airport that could land it.
One good thing about the Wuhanic Plague. Emirates and Etihad, two government funded and subsidized airlines from the UAE got absolutely hammered. My give a damn is busted.
I am mostly convinced that that Airbus built the A380 just so they could say they built one better than the 747. It’s economics are only useful on a narrow select set of routes and will be eventually overwhelmed by the newest 777 models and A350.
A shower while you fly, oh my!
Only 20k per. YIKES!
But still cool.
Frenchie made a big mistake....... Wee Wee Wee.....
“Frenchie made a big mistake...”
A mistake, probably but how many people were employed by A380 design and manufacturing?
They may have been on the dole the whole time, perhaps remaining for a lifetime...
The A380 is a magnificent passenger airplane.
Quiet, spacious, and smooth. Really enjoyed flying on them.
It was never intended for air freight.
The Boeing planes 777 and 787 were designed with a dual-use as air freight in mind. They are much noisier (engine and passing air) and not as smooth in flight.
My Dad, who passed away at 88 this January, used to sing that song to me when I was little. I think it’s called “Too Fat Polka”.
I remembered it from I was a kid.
Too Fat Polka
Here’s a silly ditty,
You can sing it right away
Now, here is what you say
So sing it while you may
Here’s a silly jingle,
You can sing it night or noon
Here’s the words, that’s all you need
‘Cause I just sang the tune:
Oh, I don’t want her, you can have her
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat for me...
