What to expect when restaurants, retailers reopen in South Florida

HALLANDALE BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - With some restaurants and retailers throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties expected to reopen with restrictions on Monday, businesses expect customers to adhere to social distancing.

After no dine-in customers for two months, the staff at Mama Jennie’s, an Italian restaurant in Northeast Miami-Dade, could be seen preparing the establishment ahead of next week.

Jennifer Berriel, the restaurant’s owner, made sure her staff wiped down surfaces, separated tables, and she also asked them questions about their health.

“I’m ready to reopen,” she said. “[I asked] whether or not they’ve had temperature, shortness of breath.”

Berriel’s efforts are part of the “new normal” that is touching every business in a big way.

At GulfStream Park in Hallandale Beach, the race track and casino will remain closed until further notice, but guests will be able to roam the 200-acre venue starting Monday.

“It’s a really much more relaxed environment to bring the family and walk through the center without feeling congested,” venue spokesperson Alex Schreer said.

I am quite surprised that a lot of places stayed closed or kept dining areas closed in Phoenix yesterday, as orders expired. I thought they would be chomping at the but, especially as they had advanced notice to get their people in line to work.

North Florida has been better...South Florida is heavily Dem and in fact I read that Broward County wants to do “contact tracing”...huh?

Of course, Florida’s most left-wing hole is in Gainesville, FL, home of UF...and the radical leftist professoriate and staff. The mayor recently ordered a skate park filled in with mulch because children were...gasp, using it!

Much of North Florida is pretty conservative, but of course a university town is so riddled with leftists that it’s a separate town of its own. St. Augustine, which is in a different county but full of retired academics and quasi-academics (librarians, etc.) from the NE is similar.

Gov. De Santis should be firmer with the counties, and Trump should be firmer with the governors. We’ve got to get going again.

The French newspaper Le Figaro has a picture of restaurant diners eating in what are probably greenhouses holding one table each.

The term “serre” (greenhouse) is used and they were said to be used by artists too.

In about 10 months the really bad news is these businesses will find out they can't make a profit under these conditions and they will close forever. This is the future of 30 percent or more of small businesses.

Spent some good time spending money in NW FL businesses that opened up this week. Gave a double tip in one location. To those that were able to work during this unconstitutional shutdown....go out and spend some money! God bless.

Contributing to the economy now is a high calling as I see it. I will be purchasing a new stove and range hood shortly, once I can shop ‘freely’ without all these contraints still in place in stores.

Yes, I see all this stuff about this or that business opening for only 25% or 50% capacity, Does not make sense, they must have had a gold mine at 100%.
