That is true, should be a useful tool during disembarking procedure.
Capt. Tom raised a great point on this. A false positive would throw the ship into quarentine for two weeks and we know there are false positives with the current tests. So if you are going to put tests on ships they better damn well be very very reliable.
How about a helipad on each ship? Passengers are temperature scanned-tested every morning. Those who are hot must get Covid19 tested and are flown off ship if Cov-Positive.
All this written in the contract you sign to get on the cruise.
What Americans on cruises now face is the ship being quarantined by another country that couldn't care less about American's so-called rights.
Seriously, I would advise people to look at their prescriptions, and take along extra medication in case of being delayed, and confined to your cabin.
There is no guarantee the ship or port will have medication you absolutely need like for gout or a specialized ailment. -Tom.
The possibilities are endless....We’re in our seventies...we’ll take the chance!!!
from Travel Pulse-June 1, 2020--Royal Caribbean has removed any bookings to Alaska and Canada for 2020 from its website, another sad, stark reality of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The news was first reported by Matt Hochberg on the Royal Caribbean Blog site.
The itineraries were gone and there was no chance to book a cruise to one of the most popular sailing destinations in the world in Alaska. But Royal Caribbean had no choice after the Canadian government announced on Friday it was extending its ban on cruise ships through the end of October 2020.

All cruises roundtrip Keelung departing August 2020: Majestic Princess Aug 5-Aug 23
KEELUNG? Where is that?
We cruise on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean and Crystal.
So very sad.
Keelung is a port city on the north coast of Taiwan. -Tom
OMG!!! We’ve BEEN there!! And Jeffen!! We went to the Geological Park that was FABULOUS!!!
Thank GOD my young husband can remember where we;ve been! :)
Looks like it’ll be 2021 for us.. North to Alaska. Hopefully Canada will be open by then. Victoria BC is one of my favorite ports.
Business must be picking up, I don’t get as many emails for cruising as a couple months a go.
Cruise ships have been used as collateral for some of these loans, but reusing them has its own problems. -Tom

excerpt- Celebrity Cruises Cancels Remaining Sailings to Alaska in 2020
By Ben Souza June 2, 2020
Celebrity Cruises has now completely canceled their 2020 Alaska season as well as Canada/New England sailings between August 1st and October 31st, 2020.
Celebrity Cruises said that these new cancellations were consequences of the coronavirus pandemic that inflicted unexpected consequences on their communities and businesses. The Government of Canada has recently announced continued port closures for all cruise ships through October 31st, 2020..... snip
Celebfity WOULD sail to Alaska if it weren’t for stupid Canada...I should say JEALOUS Canada!
Capt. Tom wrote: “AS more 2020 cruise ship itinerary cancellations come in, it looks to me like the prospects of paying back the Bilions of dollars borrowed by the cruise lines, are in danger of defaulting without an income for the borrowers.”
That suggests there will be a bailout for those lines. Too many big investors with too much at stake. Plus the impact of those lines going out of business wouldn’t be good for the overall economy. Follow the money.
I think this post by me 4 months ago pretty much nailed it.
“Times have changed, it used to be that the runs or a mechanical breakdown was the worst people had to deal with, and that was very rare (as in 1 in 1000, if that).
But now, with Coronavirus, it could easily mean the end of the cruise ship business, at least as we know it (if not completely). The IDIOTS running the business were thinking that a few cancellations/reroutings of ships, but otherwise business as usual.
They have NO CLUE as to whats in store for them. They SHOULD have been proactive, but now its far too late for them. If I was in Europe building the new, huge, ships, Id be updating my resume.”

I also think the cruise companies are simply, now, a pyramid scheme, in that they’re making all these great offers for future cruises, along with refund/deferral options - but when people ask for refunds, not so fast, as in waiting for months. They’re simply collecting money for when they go Chapter 7, almost certainly within the next 12 months.
By the way, back then, there was some Mensa babe here who unloaded on me for suggesting that not start packing her bags for a cruise in May. She said she PERFECTLY CAPABLE of making that assessment and that her superior intelligence meant that my suggestion was not needed. Haven’t see her (or her superior brain) around here much, perhaps she is still trying to catch the flight to Europe for the Cruise?
“Cruise lines are dinosaurs. Mount a couple of examples at the museum and send the rest to the breakers in Pakistan.”
I think the ‘recyclers’ are in Bangladesh (not that it matters), and want a NASTY job.
Without looking it up there are several ways of declaring bankruptcy.
One is, we are out of here ,take everything we have and give it to our creditors to use or sell. We are done, we are finished.
Another is, we want to stay in business, but because of changed conditions, we need to have our creditors off our backs, for a certain period of time, till we reorganize and can pay back our debts.
I don't think a lot of cruise lines will declare bankruptcy but likely some will.
I believe most people sense, after 2020 we will be in a new world. -Tom
I agree that it will be a new world. They may try Ch. 11, for a while, but just sporadic outbreaks will both scare off customers, and more importantly, countries which have ports.
As to the pyramid scheme reference, I simply put myself in the shoes of executives there - try to keep the stock price up (by collecting as much customer money as possible, and hanging on to it), while unloading stocks (and options) as fast as possible without the SEC coming down me.
