NASCAR looks to steer clear of protests over George Floyd

NASCAR has a checkered racial history.

From an affinity for Confederate flags among the fan base to a driver losing his job just this season for casually uttering a racial slur, the good ol’ boys have never been known for diversity.

Maybe it’s not surprising this mostly white sport seemed hesitant to join the national outrage over the death of George Floyd while in police custody — a striking contrast to its rush to be the first major sport to return during the coronavirus pandemic.

Looking toward NASCAR’s weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which will be the fourth track to stage races without fans, trucks driver Matt Crafton was asked about the protests in all 50 states and around the world demanding an end to police brutality against African Americans.

Bubba Wallace, the only African American in the top-level Cup series, expressed frustration that so many drivers were reluctant to speak out.

“A few drivers — a very few — have given their opinion on the day’s matter and I appreciate that,” Wallace said on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s podcast. “But the silence from the top drivers in our sport is beyond frustrating. ...

That will cost them their African-American fan base.

““But the silence from the top drivers in our sport is beyond frustrating.”

So just keeping your opinion to yourself is unacceptable? If you don’t “speak out” your the enemy and if you don’t say the right thing then your the enemy...got it.

These drivers know if they openly say they disagree with what’s going on there’s no telling what kind of trouble they’d get into including being ostracized.

I wonder what Dale Earnhardt would have to say about his son’s wussification.

“White silence is incredibly powerful,” said Savala Trepczynski, executive director of the Thelton E. Henderson Center for Social Justice at UC Berkeley. “It’s not neutral. It acts like a weapon.

Speak out say what you think and be ostracized. Yeah that is the ticket. Better to remain silent than parrot some drivel.

Drew Brees is a good example.

Now both sides hate him.

FU “Bubba”

Where were you “speaking out” when your fellow black bro Kori Ali MUHAMMAD was randomly killing four white men?

So sick of this racist hypocrisy. Both the cop and Floyd were bad man we’re going to have a national emergency over those two pieces of s***?

“White silence is incredibly powerful,”

Would they prefer that white people reciprocate? Wait until a black person commits a crime against a white person, take it out in violence against black people who had nothing to do with the crime, make them take a knee to whites? That would be denounced as being wrong just as these protests should be denounced. Maybe the top drivers could give interviews about black hate good, white silence bad. That would be telling the truth when they are being pressured to lie.

“to a driver losing his job just this season for casually uttering a racial slur”

Listen to a little rap music jackals. It’ll take about 10 seconds to hear nasty language. Not to mention demeaning women, promoting cop killing and the obligatory hate Whitey.

`Jackals’ is a perfect term to describe rioters, arsonists, and looters. Of use to no one and in need of killing.

Speaking of NASCAR and race, in 2006 NBC infiltrated Muslims into the racetrack area, complete with robes, hijabs, beards and kufi caps, hoping to provoke some “Islamophobic” incidents. None occurred, it was a total flop.

So now we have a “woke” NASCAR driver who happens to be black. Mmm-kay..... Only how does he display his wokeness?

I know, he’ll say screw his sponsors and paint his car with BLM slogans. See how long he lasts on the racetrack.

Exactly!
Not every driver, athlete, or entertainer, has to have a public opinion on every issue. In fact, the smart ones rarely do.
