Truly a treasure of western civilization and a reminder of a Britain that really doesn’t exist anymore except in the hearts of a few.

I have a whole lot of her WW2 music and I love to put it on the stereo and kick back while I listen to it.

Vera Lynn was a huge part of the resolve and determination exhibited by the Brits during the Battle of Britain and her love of country was evident in much of her music.

One of her songs, “Land of Hope and Glory” was extremely Nationalistic as well as expansionist and would never have been released or even written in the world as we know it today.

Check it out.

****There’ll be blue birds over, the white cliffs of Dover.****

Beautiful song with a special message ‘blue birds vs. bombers’

****sigh****

Truly one of the greatest of the WWII Generation.

Listening to Dame Vera Lynn’s songs makes my eyes leak.

Always did, always will.

Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?

The LORD remembers her and all his pious ones. May we meet again in His kingdom with everlasting joy.

did she die of a broken heart?

14 Jun: Daily Mail: PETER HITCHENS: From the lockdown to the destruction of statues, these febrile weeks show the pillars of our freedom and civilization are rotten. As the Left now controls every lever of power, we face nothing less than regime change
They do not know what they want, or understand what they are destroying. But that no longer matters. They think their moment has come, and they may well be right...

This time, as ignorant armies seek the final abolition of Britain, it is very frightening. I would not like to say where it will end. I cannot claim to have known this would happen but I will say that I had an instinctive fear of very bad things to come when the country began its mad, wild shutdown in March...
Many who have died of Covid-19 are almost certainly victims of the Government’s failure to protect those who were in fact most vulnerable – the residents of care homes...

During these long dreamy weeks we have bit by bit forgotten who we were before, how we lived, what we thought, what we expected of life. I believe that forces hostile to our country, its history and nature, have seen this as an opportunity...

I love how Peter Hitchens looks like he couldn’t possibly care less about the people in the background as he enjoys his evening stroll

She went out on top. When the Queen used the lyrics in her song for her COVID19 speech that song went to the top of music downloads. Not bad for a 103 year old.

She was my parent’s favorite British singer. My dad wanted to name my older sister after Vera Lynn. I don’t know why they didn’t. Maybe because my aunt already was. My aunt was some high faulting lawyer in Washington DC. I know this goes back awhile, but she knew Harry Truman personally.

103 years.
A hell of a run!
Rest in Peace. The blue skies have driven the dark clouds away for you.

I remember watching the class “World at War” series with Laurence Olivier as narrator. They had an episode on the Burma Campaign. The had a clip of Vera Lynn visiting the British 14th Army and how that was such a huge deal for the troops. The 14th Army regarded themselves as something of a forgotten army as all the attention and resources were given to North Africa.

One by one they are being removed from our presence and soon from our memories but not so log as we that knew them live.
